The grand food and wine celebration of the Terzieri in the historic center of Chiusi
For over forty years, the Grape and Wine Festival has been the most anticipated autumn event in Chiusi, in the heart of the Sienese Valdichiana. For a few days at the end of September, the Etruscan historic center fills with voices, music, and aromas: the ancient streets and squares become the stage for a grand popular celebration honoring the grape harvest, wine, and local produce. The event is organized by the Associazione Terzieri di Chiusi, in collaboration with the municipal administration and the Pro Loco, and attracts thousands of visitors every year to this corner of the province of Siena, in Tuscany.
The heart of the festival lies in the Terzieri, the historic city districts that animate the center with their taverns: open kitchens where you can enjoy traditional dishes, from handmade pici pasta to Chiusi culinary specialties. All around, the scattered wine cellars (cantine diffuse) tucked away in the alleys of the historic center offer tastings of local wines, while the Enoteca dei Terzieri serves labels selected by expert sommeliers. It is a food and wine journey that invites you to stroll from tavern to cellar, discovering a different facet of Chiusi at every stop.
Alongside food and wine, the festival is a constant source of entertainment: street bands and roving performances fill the streets, while the evenings light up with concerts and DJ sets in the main squares. The charm of tradition is ever-present, with performances by the Flag-wavers and Drummers Group of the Terzieri of Chiusi and the parade of allegorical floats dedicated to the harvest theme. Spaces and activities are provided for families, making the event suitable for all ages.
Experiencing the Grape and Wine Festival is also an opportunity to discover one of the most important Etruscan cities in Italy. Chiusi houses the National Archaeological Museum, the Labyrinth of Porsenna, and numerous Etruscan sites; during the festival, guided archaeological tours with final tastings are often offered. For several years, the event has also been linked to the Treno Natura (Nature Train) of the FS Foundation, which reaches Chiusi from the Crete Senesi aboard vintage carriages, combining a historic journey with the festival.
The event structure includes a Preview lasting several days, featuring street food, local bands, and tasting evenings, followed by the official weekend when the festival comes alive with taverns, wine cellars, shows, and flag-wavers. A proven format that makes the Chiusi Grape and Wine Festival one of the most successful traditional events in the province of Siena.
The 43rd edition of the Grape and Wine Festival will animate the historic center of Chiusi in the last week of September 2026, organized as always by the Associazione Terzieri di Chiusi with the Municipality and the Pro Loco. For 2026, the event is divided into a Preview (September 20-25), dedicated to street food, local bands, and tasting evenings, and the official weekend (September 26-28), when the festival comes alive with the Terzieri taverns, scattered wine cellars, the Enoteca, street bands, and performances by flag-wavers and drummers.
Among the already announced events, the FS Foundation has confirmed the Treno Natura run to Chiusi for Sunday, September 27, 2026, traveling by historic train from the Crete Senesi.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, concerts, and evening guests, will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event on the official website festadelluvaedelvino.com.
