In the heart of Ciociaria, the small town of Acuto—perched on a ridge overlooking the Sacco Valley and the Roman countryside, in the province of Frosinone, Lazio—dedicates a festival each July to its most authentic culinary tradition: handmade fettuccine. The Fettuccine Festival is a young event, established in 2024, which in just a few editions has become one of the most anticipated highlights of the Acuto summer.

Fettuccine, the heart of peasant tradition

The absolute star is fresh egg pasta, rolled out by hand with a rolling pin using an ancient technique passed down through generations. During the festival, local 'sfogline' (pasta makers) hold demonstrations on how to prepare the dough, showing the public—especially the younger generation—how a dish that embodies the area's rural heritage is created. The fettuccine are then dressed according to traditional recipes and served at food stalls, accompanied by other flavors of Ciociarian cuisine.

A community celebration along Corso Umberto

The historic center of Acuto, with its elegant doorways and alleys opening onto sweeping panoramas, provides the perfect backdrop for the event. Along Corso Umberto, food stalls, communal tables, and a stage for live music line the street, keeping the evening lively until late. The atmosphere is that of a genuine village feast: families, groups of friends, and visitors from neighboring villages gather to enjoy good food together.

The Fettuccine Festival is one of the flagship events of the Estate Acutina, the packed summer program organized by the municipal administration together with the Pro Loco and local associations. Culture, entertainment, music, sports, and gastronomy alternate from July to August, enlivening the village and showcasing its traditions, from the famous Cesanese wine to rustic peasant dishes.
