A fair celebrating local excellence, featuring tractors, Santalbanesi meat, and snails
The Fera ed Sant'Alban is the most cherished event in Sant'Albano Stura, a small town in the plains of the Province of Cuneo, in Piedmont. Also known as the Santalbanesi Meat and Snail Festival, this fair celebrates local excellence: agriculture, livestock, craftsmanship, and the gastronomy of a town that takes pride in its land. The subtitle chosen by the organizers, "the Fera ed Sant'Alban that produces," perfectly captures this industrious spirit.
The event spans two weekends with various activities centered around Parco Olmi, where a large heated marquee is set up, and the town's historic center. Gastronomic dinners are the heart of the fair, featuring Santalbanesi meat and snails prepared according to local tradition, accompanied by live music and dance evenings.
The most anticipated and spectacular moment is the tractor parade, titled with Piedmontese irony "Where are you going if you don't have a tractor?". Dozens of decorated and illuminated agricultural vehicles drive through the town in a procession that awards the brightest tractor and the one with the loudest horn: a joyful celebration of field work that attracts a massive audience.
On Sunday, the town fills with market stalls, animal displays, and local products, while the community gathers for the presentation of civic awards and scholarships. The historic Zabaione, the opening of the museum and library, family entertainment, and flag-wavers are also highlights. The fair concludes with Sant'Alban ed cursa, a non-competitive race and family walk that brings hundreds of participants through the streets of the town.
The Fera ed Sant'Alban is much more than a food festival: it is the story of a community rooted in its farming heritage. For those visiting the Langhe and the Cuneo plains in spring, it is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic Piedmont, defined by genuine flavors, hospitality, and living traditions.
The 2026 edition of the Fera ed Sant'Alban, organized by the Pro Loco led by Giacomo "Gimmy" Chiavassa with the support of the Municipality of Sant'Albano Stura, proved to be a great popular success. The dinners featuring Santalbanesi meat and snails, held at Parco Olmi, were sold out well in advance, while the tractor parade brought 103 agricultural vehicles to the town, a record number. The festival, spread over two weekends, combined gastronomy, farming tradition, civic awards, and sports, with a cross-generational participation of families, youth, and seniors.
Sant'Albano Stura is located in the Cuneo plains, about 15 km from Cuneo and 60 km south of Turin. By car, it is reached via the provincial road to Fossano; the nearest train station is in Fossano, on the Turin-Savona line.
Dinners and shows are held under the heated marquee at Parco Olmi; exhibitions, market stalls, and parades enliven the town's historic center.
Dinners require reservations (often sold out well in advance): Pro Loco of Sant'Albano Stura, tel. +39 338 386 8477. Race registration via WhatsApp with Satispay payment.
