The patronal feast of Marene, featuring music, polenta and sausage, and bocce tournaments in the heart of the village.
The Patronal Feast of the Nativity of Mary is the most anticipated event of the year in Marene, a town of about 3,300 inhabitants in the Cuneo plains, in the province of Cuneo and the heart of Piedmont. The town's patron saint is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a feast day celebrated by the liturgical calendar on September 8th. Around this date, for generations, the community has gathered for a few days of celebration that combine religious devotion with popular, convivial festivities.
In recent years, the patronal feast has taken the name Marene Fest, a format through which the Pro Loco Marenese and local associations relaunch the event with a rich program designed for all ages. The heart of the evenings is the Palazzo Galvagno park, which hosts live music, DJ sets, food stands, and entertainment, while activities extend to the streets and squares of the historic center, from Via Stefano Gallina to Piazza Carignano.
The festival's highlight is the food: the stars are traditional Piedmontese dishes, especially the highly anticipated polenta and sausage dinner, accompanied by a selection of cheeses and dessert. There is also street food, a bar service, and evenings dedicated to younger crowds with DJ sets, alongside events tied to the town's history.
The Marene patronal feast preserves the genuine spirit of village festivals: bocce tournaments, card games, ballroom dancing evenings with orchestras, and moments designed to bring entire families and different generations together. Admission to the events is generally free, a sign of a popular and inclusive festival built by local volunteers.
Experiencing the Patronal Feast of the Nativity of Mary means discovering the authentic soul of a village in the Cuneo plains, far from the major tourist circuits. It is an opportunity to savor the most genuine Piedmontese cuisine, listen to good music outdoors, and breathe in the warm atmosphere of a community that, every September, gathers around its own traditions.
