Two days dedicated to extra virgin olive oil and Etnean traditions in Camporotondo Etneo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Etna Extra Virgin Olive Oil Festival is an event celebrating extra virgin olive oil in Camporotondo Etneo, a town in the Province of Catania nestled on the southern slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily. The festival was established in 2025 to seal the town's official entry into the Città dell'Olio national network, an association bringing together over 500 Italian municipalities linked to olive-growing culture. For two days, the historic center transforms into a vibrant stage, spanning Piazza Sant'Antonio Abate and Via Umberto, where the 'green gold' of Etna takes center stage.
The heart of the festival lies in the bond between the oil and the rural identity of the Etna area. Along the town's streets, you will find show cooking, street food featuring local delicacies like warm ricotta, hanging cheeses, homemade desserts, and of course, local extra virgin olive oil, alongside craft stalls. There is no shortage of Sicilian carts parading through the alleys and visits to the Peasant Museum, which preserves the tools and knowledge of an agricultural civilization passed down through generations here.
Evenings are enlivened by live music, tribute bands, and comedy, while daytime sessions feature conferences dedicated to Sicilian olive growing, product quality, and the prospects of multifunctional agriculture. The inaugural edition saw the participation of administrators, representatives of the Città dell'Olio network, the GAL Etna Sud, Confagricoltura Catania, and the Pro Loco, reflecting a festival that aims to be both a popular celebration and an opportunity for the economic development of the region.
Promoted by the Municipality of Camporotondo Etneo with the patronage of the National Association of Oil Cities, the Sicilian Region, and the involvement of the Pro Loco and local youth associations, the festival is a recent initiative with a clear commitment to continuity. For those visiting the Etna area in autumn, it offers an authentic opportunity to discover a lesser-known village in the Province of Catania through its flavors, music, and most genuine traditions.
The 2026 edition of the Etna Extra Virgin Olive Oil Festival does not yet have official dates. The event, launched in 2025 in Camporotondo Etneo (Province of Catania), is usually held in October and is expected to repeat the format of the first edition: extra virgin olive oil tastings, show cooking, street food featuring local products, crafts, Sicilian carts, live music, and conferences on Etnean olive growing.
The detailed program and dates will be announced by the Municipality of Camporotondo Etneo and the Pro Loco. It is recommended to check the official municipal channels for updates.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Camporotondo Etneo (CT), between Piazza Sant'Antonio Abate and Via Umberto.
By car: Camporotondo Etneo is about 15 km from Catania, accessible via the SP4 and the roads of the Etna district. By plane: Catania-Fontanarossa Airport is the closest (approx. 20 km). By train: the reference station is Catania Centrale, from which you can continue by car or bus connections.
The event takes place in the town's public spaces and is free to attend.
