The Etna flavor festivals, every Sunday in October in Zafferana Etnea
The Ottobrata Zafferanese is the historic food and wine market that transforms Zafferana Etneaโa town in the Province of Catania nestled on the eastern slopes of Mount Etnaโinto the capital of Sicilian autumn flavors every year. The event takes place every Sunday in October and welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each season, drawn by the typical products of Mount Etna and the festive atmosphere that fills the town's streets.
The heart of the Ottobrata lies in its structure of four thematic Sundays, each dedicated to a symbolic product of the Etna land:
Along Piazza Umberto I, Piazza Belvedere, the Villa Comunale, and Piazza della Regione, dozens of stalls display mustarda, honey, wine, apples, grapes, walnuts, Etna porcini mushrooms, typical Sicilian cheeses, and numerous traditional dishes, including gluten-free options. Alongside the food and wine, local artisans showcase their work in lava stone, ceramics, and wood.
The Sundays of the Ottobrata begin early in the morning with nature excursions through the trails and most characteristic places of the Etna territory, continuing with exhibitions, show cooking, guided tours, creative workshops, and games for children. The days conclude with folk performances, entertainment, and musical concerts. Admission is free.
Promoted by the Municipality of Zafferana Etnea, the event was born in the first half of the 1980s and has grown to become one of the most renowned food and wine festivals in all of Sicily, the pride of autumn on Mount Etna and a showcase for the typical products of the Province of Catania.
The 2026 Ottobrata Zafferanese returns for the four Sundays of October, on October 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2026, in the center of Zafferana Etnea. The traditional formula is confirmed: the Grape Festival at the opening, followed by the Honey Festival, the Etna Apple Festival, and the final Mushroom and Chestnut Festival.
Between Piazza Umberto I, Piazza Belvedere, the Villa Comunale, and Piazza della Regione, the encounter between Etna's typical products, local crafts, nature excursions, show cooking, and musical performances is renewed. The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the calendar of concerts and side events, will be announced by the organization closer to the event. Admission is free.
Every Sunday in October. The 2026 edition is scheduled for October 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2026.
