The closing lunch and awards ceremony in the heart of the Langhe
The Dolcetto Summer Fest is the food and wine event through which the Strada del Barolo e Grandi Vini di Langa celebrates Dolcetto, the most widespread and representative red grape variety of the Langhe. The event spans two days and two municipalities: Saturday is dedicated to the grand tasting in the historic center of Rodello, while on Sunday the festivities move to Diano d'Alba, in the province of Cuneo, for the closing lunch at the Spianamento di San Sebastiano.
Dolcetto is not a sweet wine, as the name might suggest: it is a dry, fragrant, and immediate red, which has always been the daily wine of the Langhe farmers and is today being rediscovered by new generations of producers. The festival brings together about forty wineries from various parts of Piedmont and offers dozens of labels for tasting, representing the numerous designations of origin obtained from this grape, from Diano d'Alba to Dogliani, from Alba to Ovada.
The day in Diano is the most convivial moment of the event. At the Spianamento di San Sebastiano, overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage hills, an open-air lunch is held featuring traditional Piedmontese dishes accompanied by free-pour Dolcetto tastings, presented directly by the producers. The lunch is also the occasion for the awards ceremony for the best Dolcetto of the vintage, selected by a jury of industry experts.
One of the central themes of the Dolcetto Summer Fest is the dialogue between roots and the future: the festival provides a platform for young winemakers who reinterpret Dolcetto in a modern key, enhancing its versatility and bringing it to international markets. The event is the result of collaboration between local municipalities and administrations, supporting a wine sector that is the heart of the economy and identity of the Langhe.
For those who want to discover the authentic face of Piedmontese gastronomy, far from the big names but in the very heart of the Barolo hills, the Dolcetto Summer Fest in Diano d'Alba is an unmissable appointment.
Diano d'Alba is located in the province of Cuneo, a few kilometers from Alba. By car, it can be reached from the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Alba exit) and then following the signs for Diano d'Alba; the Spianamento di San Sebastiano is located along the hills of the municipality. By train, the reference station is Alba, connected by bus service to the surrounding hills.
The closing lunch in Diano d'Alba costs 35 euros per person and includes the full menu and free-pour wine tastings. Booking is mandatory via the Strada del Barolo online form. For information: [email protected].
The event takes place outdoors: comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for the hills are recommended. Combine with a visit to local wineries and Alba, the capital of the Langhe.
