When wine becomes sacred: Nosiola and Vino Santo Trentino in the Valle dei Laghi
DiVinNosiola is the food and wine event that celebrates Nosiola—Trentino's only native white grape variety—and the rare Vino Santo Trentino DOC, a sweet meditation wine recognized as a Slow Food Presidium, every spring. Promoted by the Associazione Vignaioli del Vino Santo Trentino based in Santa Massenza di Vallelaghi, the festival spreads across the entire Valle dei Laghi, involving wineries, vineyards, olive groves, and villages in a rich calendar of widespread events.
The Municipality of Cavedine, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), is one of the beating hearts of the event. Here, at the historic Cantina Gino Pedrotti and along the shores of Lake Cavedine, some of the most evocative appointments take place: walks through Nosiola vineyards, trekking among ancient olive trees, and the ritual of pressing the withered grapes, a symbolic moment in the production cycle of Vino Santo.
The Valle dei Laghi enjoys a Mediterranean microclimate, with the Ora del Garda—the wind blowing up from the lake—aiding the withering of the grapes. It is this very breeze that makes the slow drying of Nosiola bunches on arèle (wooden racks) possible, leading up to Holy Week, when the historic pressing takes place.
DiVinNosiola is more than just a tasting; it is an immersion into Trentino's winemaking tradition, set against landscapes of rare beauty, authentic villages, and the warm hospitality of the winemakers. A unique opportunity to discover a rare wine, produced in very limited quantities, and the territory that guards it.
The sixteenth edition of DiVinNosiola was held from March 27 to April 10, 2026, throughout the Valle dei Laghi. A major highlight of the year was the inauguration of the Sentiero della Nosiola, a 9 km loop between Padergnone and Santa Massenza enriched by 13 educational wooden installations, offering an immersive experience into the world of viticulture.
On Sunday, March 29, at the Cantina Gino Pedrotti in Cavedine, the Walk through the Nosiola vineyards (€15) and the evocative Spremitura Ritual (free admission) took place. The program also included the Trekking among the Olive Trees, a 9.5 km route towards Lake Cavedine through the Mediterranean scrub.
March 27 — Cantina Pravis (Lasino): 'Dal Trentino alla Romagna' masterclass and 'Sapori & Saperi' dinner.
March 28 — Cantina F.lli Pisoni (Pergolese): NosiolaDay, roundtable on wine tourism, gourmet experience, and Nosiola/grappa tastings.
March 29 — Cantina Gino Pedrotti (Cavedine): Walk through the Nosiola vineyards (€15) and Spremitura Ritual (free admission); Trekking among the Olive Trees (9.5 km) towards Lake Cavedine.
April 4 — Casa Caveau, Padergnone: Aspersione ritual.
April 6 — Nosiola Express (€60): food and wine train through six valley wineries.
April 10 — Cantina Francesco Poli: 'Una Relazione Pericolosa' dinner.
Cavedine is located in the Valle dei Laghi, about 20 km from Trento. By car: from the A22 Brenner motorway, take the Trento Centro exit, then the SS45 bis towards Lake Toblino and the Valle dei Laghi. By train: Trento station, then Trentino Trasporti bus line towards the valley.
Many events (walks, masterclasses, dinners, Nosiola Express) require booking. Info and tickets: tel. +39 349 3365446, email [email protected], website vinosantotrentino.it. Some events, such as the 'Rito della Spremitura', have free admission.
The festival takes place between late March and early April, coinciding with Holy Week and the traditional pressing of Vino Santo.
