The Madonie village transforms into a winter wonderland of lights, crafts, and traditions

The Geraci Siculo Christmas Markets, also known as Agrinatale, are among the most evocative festive events in the Madonie region, in the province of Palermo. For several weekends in December, the medieval village—a member of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy circuit and located within the Madonie Park—transforms into a true 'winter mountain' setting, complete with illuminations, decorations, and a rich program of events that bring the historic center to life.
Along the narrow streets and squares of Geraci Siculo, in the municipality of the same name within the Metropolitan City of Palermo, visitors will find a winding path of artisan stalls, Christmas ornaments, and typical products from the Madonie area. The event is not just a celebration, but also an important opportunity for cultural and tourism promotion for a village that has chosen a development model capable of reconciling landscape conservation, organic farming, and the enhancement of local traditions.
The program alternates between street entertainment and moments dedicated to Sicilian folk culture:
During the holidays, the entire village becomes a sort of sprawling nativity scene: the historic churches of the town host displays created with local materials, from the cork of the Madonie cork forests to wood and hand-embroidered artifacts. This setting of stone, mountains, and devotion makes the Geraci Siculo Christmas Markets an experience that goes far beyond a simple visit to the stalls.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Geraci Siculo, the Parish of Santa Maria La Porta, the Sicilian Region, and the "I nipoti du nannu" association, with the involvement of local associations and artisans. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: the event is traditionally held in December.
Details for the 2026 edition of the Geraci Siculo Christmas Markets are not yet available. Based on previous years' traditions, the event is expected to take place over the weekends of December in the historic center of the village, with artisan markets, typical products from the Madonie, illuminations, and musical and street performances. The full program will be published by the organizers closer to the holidays.
Geraci Siculo is located in the Madonie, in the province of Palermo. By car, it can be reached from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (take the exits towards the Madonie) and continuing along the internal provincial roads; the village is about two hours from Palermo. The nearest train station is on the Tyrrhenian coast, with onward travel by car or local bus.
The markets take place on the weekends of December, generally opening in the afternoon on Saturdays and all day on Sundays and public holidays.
Warm clothing is recommended: the village is located in the mountains and December temperatures can be cold. Don't miss the typical Madonie products and the nativity scenes set up in the churches of the historic center.
