The cuisine of Val di Non in the historic cellars of Fondo
The Cosina Nonesa en ti Somasi da Fon is one of the most beloved food and wine festivals in the Upper Val di Non, in Trentino-Alto Adige. It takes place in the historic center of Fondo, now a district of the municipality of Borgo d'Anaunia (Province of Trento), established in 2020 through the merger of Fondo, Malosco, and Castelfondo. The name, in the local Nones dialect, means "Nones cuisine in the cellars of Fondo": the somasi are, in fact, the ancient covered cellars, porticoes, and entryways of the village's old houses, which are opened and transformed into picturesque spots for local gastronomy.
Local associations bring each somaso to life by serving traditional peasant dishes from the valley: strangolapreti (spinach gnocchi), tortei di patate (potato fritters), polenta, grilled meats, mountain cheeses, and the essential apple fritters, a tribute to the apple-growing heritage of Val di Non. Strolling through the streets and cellars of Fondo, from one somaso to the next, is a true journey into the flavors and memories of older generations.
The event is not just about food and wine. Along the streets of the village, you will find street performers, musical shows, entertainment, dance performances, and a craft market set up in Piazza San Giovanni. There is plenty of space for the little ones, with workshops for children such as educational woodworking and other playful activities that make the festival perfect for the whole family.
Organized by the Comitato Somasi da Fon in collaboration with Pro Loco Fondo APS, the Cosina Nonesa is now a fixed appointment in the Val di Non summer calendar. Its formula, which combines traditional cuisine, historic settings, and the involvement of the entire village community, has made it one of the reference festivals in northern Trentino, attracting visitors from all over the valley and beyond.
In 2026, the Cosina Nonesa en ti Somasi da Fon celebrates its 30th edition, scheduled for Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, in the historic center of Fondo, a district of Borgo d'Anaunia (Val di Non, Trentino-Alto Adige).
Local associations open the somasi, offering strangolapreti, tortei di patate, polenta, cheeses, grilled meats, and apple fritters. Accompanying the tastings: street performers, musical shows, children's workshops, and the craft market set up in Piazza San Giovanni.
Saturday, August 8, from 7:00 PM; Sunday, August 9, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and from 6:00 PM in the evening.
