About Cavateddi and Crastuna Festival

In Floridia, in the heart of the Syracuse province, the Cavateddi and Crastuna Festival celebrates two authentic symbols of Sicilian popular cuisine: cavateddi, a handmade durum wheat semolina pasta, and crastuna, snails prepared according to age-old recipes. For several days, Piazza Vito Bugliarello transforms into a vibrant open-air venue filled with tastings, local product stalls, artisanal crafts, vintage car and motorcycle parades, a funfair, and evenings of music and entertainment for the whole family.

A festival that tells the story of Floridia

The Cavateddi and Crastuna Festival is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in Floridia, a town in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily, nestled on the edge of the Iblean plateau. The event was born from a desire to celebrate the dishes that form the town's collective memory, bringing the flavors of home-cooked meals and the joy of gathering around a good table back to the public square.

The stars of the show: cavateddi and crastuna

Cavateddi are a typical Sicilian pasta made entirely by hand from a dough of durum wheat semolina and water, sometimes enriched with potatoes; they have an elongated shape and a characteristic hollow center that perfectly holds the sauce. Alongside them, the crastunaโ€”land snails prepared according to the Iblean peasant traditionโ€”take center stage as a humble yet iconic dish that is a source of pride and celebration in Floridia.

What to find in the square

The heart of the festival is Piazza Vito Bugliarello, which fills with stalls, aromas, and music for the occasion. The usual program includes:

  • tastings of cavateddi dressed in traditional styles and freshly cooked crastuna;
  • stalls featuring typical products and specialties from the Syracuse area;
  • exhibitions of local handicrafts and agribusiness companies;
  • parades of vintage cars and motorcycles animating the town center;
  • a funfair and attractions designed for children;
  • evenings of live music and shows accompanying the tastings until late at night.

A community event

More than just a food festival, the Cavateddi and Crastuna Festival is a meeting point for the entire Floridia community and visitors from neighboring towns. It is a moment when the gastronomic traditions of the Iblei are shared and passed down, in a popular and welcoming atmosphere that blends taste, folklore, and conviviality.

When it takes place

The event is traditionally held in spring, during the month of May. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers: it is recommended to follow the official channels of the Municipality of Floridia and the organizing committee for updates.
