The Cavateddi and Crastuna Festival is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in Floridia, a town in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily, nestled on the edge of the Iblean plateau. The event was born from a desire to celebrate the dishes that form the town's collective memory, bringing the flavors of home-cooked meals and the joy of gathering around a good table back to the public square.
Cavateddi are a typical Sicilian pasta made entirely by hand from a dough of durum wheat semolina and water, sometimes enriched with potatoes; they have an elongated shape and a characteristic hollow center that perfectly holds the sauce. Alongside them, the crastunaโland snails prepared according to the Iblean peasant traditionโtake center stage as a humble yet iconic dish that is a source of pride and celebration in Floridia.
The heart of the festival is Piazza Vito Bugliarello, which fills with stalls, aromas, and music for the occasion. The usual program includes:
More than just a food festival, the Cavateddi and Crastuna Festival is a meeting point for the entire Floridia community and visitors from neighboring towns. It is a moment when the gastronomic traditions of the Iblei are shared and passed down, in a popular and welcoming atmosphere that blends taste, folklore, and conviviality.
The event is traditionally held in spring, during the month of May. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers: it is recommended to follow the official channels of the Municipality of Floridia and the organizing committee for updates.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Cavateddi and Crastuna Festival have not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to return in May in Floridia (SR), at Piazza Vito Bugliarello, with the usual program of cavateddi and crastuna tastings, stalls featuring typical Iblean products, crafts, vintage car and motorcycle parades, and live music evenings. This page will be updated as soon as the organizers announce the final dates.
The festival takes place in Piazza Vito Bugliarello, in the center of Floridia (SR), Sicily.
By car: Floridia is easily accessible from Syracuse (about 10 km) via the SS124. By train: the Floridia station is served by the line to Syracuse. By plane: the nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, about an hour's drive away.
