The autumn chestnut festival in Albiano, Val di Cembra
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every late October, the small village of Albiano in the Val di Cembra celebrates its most precious fruit with the Castagnada Biana, the historic Chestnut Festival that has brought the entire community together for over forty years. The event is dedicated to the Albiano chestnut, grown for centuries on the sunny terraces surrounding the town, and was born from a desire to rediscover the uses, flavors, and customs of Trentino's rural tradition.
The Castagnada Biana began in 1982 on the initiative of the local bocce club, with the idea of promoting local chestnut cultivation and raising awareness of an agricultural heritage that risked being lost. Since then, the event has been held every autumn, growing with each edition: the dialect name «Biana» recalls the traditional name of the festival, deeply rooted in the popular culture of the Val di Cembra.
The heart of the festival is, of course, the gastronomy: under the marquee set up in the Oratory square, visitors can enjoy the essential roasted chestnuts, chestnut-based desserts, bread, and traditional peasant dishes, all paired with local valley wines. Among the most popular offerings is «La Collana di Castagne» (The Chestnut Necklace), a gastronomic walk through the historic center that guides visitors to discover the king of autumn fruits.
The Castagnada Biana is not just about food: the program always includes concerts and live music, dance evenings, guided walks through the chestnut groves starting from the village center, workshops and entertainment for children, and festive moments that keep Albiano lively until late at night. It is an event designed for families, where tradition, conviviality, and the autumn landscape blend into a unique experience.
Located in the province of Trento, in Trentino-Alto Adige, the municipality of Albiano is famous not only for its chestnuts but also for porphyry, the stone extracted from its quarries. The Val di Cembra, with its terraced vineyards and woods, offers the ideal setting for an autumn excursion: the Castagnada Biana is the perfect opportunity to combine a nature walk with the authentic taste of mountain products.
The 2026 edition of the Castagnada Biana in Albiano is expected, as every year, for the last weekend of October, but at the moment the organizers have not yet announced the official dates or the detailed program. The Val di Cembra Chestnut Festival usually features roasted chestnuts, chestnut-based desserts, guided walks through the chestnut groves, and live music evenings that have made it one of the most appreciated autumn events in Trentino. Updated information will be available on the official event channels.
Albiano can be reached by car from Trento in about 20 minutes, driving up towards the Val di Cembra. The reference railway station is Trento, on the Brenner line, from which you can continue by local bus or car.
The heart of the festival is the marquee set up in the Oratory square, in the town center (Via S. Antonio area). The walks start from the town hall towards the surrounding chestnut groves.
