Discovering the white gold of the Monregalese area and the De.Co. of Briaglia
In the heart of the Monregalese area, in the province of Cuneo, the tiny village of Briaglia guards a treasure that grows silently in its woods: the prized white truffle (Tuber magnatum). The Briaglia White Truffle Conference was created to tell its story, give it a voice, and make it a source of pride for the village's economy and identity. The event is held in the historic spaces of the former Confraternity of Briaglia, a symbolic location chosen to launch a long-term development project.
The day follows a theoretical and educational approach: it is an opportunity to explore the nature of the truffle, understand how it grows and lives in the undergrowth, and examine the peculiar characteristics of the "white" of Briaglia. It is a journey that starts from the science and biology of the Tuber magnatum to arrive at the cultural and gastronomic value this product holds for the lower Piedmont region, where the Langhe, Roero, Monferrato, and Monregalese areas are confirmed as lands dedicated to truffle hunting.
The conference is the first act of a broader project dedicated to the Municipal Designation (De.Co.) of the white truffle of Briaglia, originally envisioned by former mayor Dario Filippi and now relaunched by the municipal administration and the renewed Pro Loco. The initiative aims to protect and promote an enogastronomic excellence that also serves as a source of identity for the small village. The project's objectives also include the creation of an educational truffle ground on public land.
The experience does not end with the theory. Following the conference, a second, more practical and experiential session is scheduled, featuring a trip into the woods and a truffle hunting demonstration, designed to highlight the symbiosis between the hunter, the dog, and nature. A way to personally experience the emotions of truffle hunting amidst the beauty of the Monregalese woods.
The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of Briaglia, chaired by Silvano Borsarelli, with the support of the Municipality of Briaglia and the contribution of the Fondazione CRC. The Slow Food Monregalese Convivium and the Association of Truffle Hunters of the Cebano-Monregalese area collaborate on the project, testifying to a local network that believes in the potential of the truffle as a lever for cultural and tourism development.
