About Bread and Pasta Festival

Returning this August to Borgata Costiera, on the coast of Mazara del Vallo (Trapani), the Bread and Pasta Festival is the highlight of the local summer season. For three nights, the coastal village transforms into a vast gourmet hub where bread, pasta, couscous, fresh fish, and local wines showcase the cereal and farming heritage of Western Sicily. Featuring food stalls, exhibitions, live mural painting, concerts, and the famous St. Joseph's Devotional Bread, the event blends authentic flavors, art, and folk culture in a highly anticipated, free-entry celebration.

A festival dedicated to traditional Sicilian bread and pasta

The Bread and Pasta Festival is one of the most cherished gastronomic events of the summer in Mazara del Vallo, a city in the province of Trapani overlooking the Strait of Sicily. The event takes place in the picturesque setting of Borgata Costiera, a seaside hamlet of the municipality, and celebrates the excellence of Sicilian cereal traditions: the bread, pasta, and all the products of the farming civilization that have shaped the food culture of this land.

Taste, culture, and art in one event

For three nights, the village comes alive with scents and flavors. Along the town streets, you will find the Street Food Valley, with stalls dedicated to Sicilian specialties: ancient grain bread, homemade pasta, couscous, fresh fish dishes from the Mazara market, and local wines and bitters. Alongside the gastronomy, the festival offers spaces dedicated to fishing, agriculture, and shepherdingโ€”the three productive pillars of the territory.

The symbolic heart of the event is the "Non Solo Pane" (Not Just Bread) exhibition, which showcases the authenticity of Sicilian flavors and preserves the famous St. Joseph's Devotional Bread, crafted by local women using techniques passed down through generations. The artistic dimension is entrusted to the ScalmaNati per l'Arte collective, who paint the village walls live with agricultural-themed murals dedicated to bread and grain.

Shows, music, and awards

Each edition offers a rich entertainment program: concerts, cabaret, musical performances, and street shows that keep the evenings lively until late. There is no shortage of cultural moments, such as the "Cultural Carousel" at the historic wash-houses and conferences dedicated to local traditions. During the festival, the "Golden Sulana" and "Dimension of Time" awards are also presented to those who have distinguished themselves in promoting Mazara's culture and identity.

A growing tradition

Conceived and organized by Francesco Foggia with the patronage of the Municipality of Mazara del Vallo and the collaboration of UNAC and Pro Loco, the Bread and Pasta Festival reached its tenth edition in 2025, marking its firm place in the summer calendar of Western Sicily. Admission is free for all evenings.
