Wine tastings under the starry sky of the Night of San Lorenzo, in the Stagnone Lagoon of Marsala.
Calici di Stelle is one of the most beloved wine tourism events of the Italian summer, conceived by the Movimento Turismo del Vino in partnership with the Città del Vino association. In Marsala, the iconic city of Sicilian wine in the Trapani province, the event celebrates the union between the starry August sky and the region's great wines, offering enthusiasts an evening of open-air tastings under the Perseid meteor shower.
The heart of the event is the Night of San Lorenzo, on August 10th, when eyes turn to the sky in search of shooting stars while glasses are filled with Marsala, Grillo, Catarratto, and other white wines that have made this corner of Sicily famous. In Marsala, the event takes place notably at Vie del Vento, in the evocative setting of the Stagnone Nature Reserve, where the sunset over the salt pans and the island of Mozia serves as a prologue to the evening.
Calici di Stelle is more than just a tasting: the program includes meetings with producers, pairings with typical Sicilian products, live music, and astronomical observation sessions. Numerous historic wineries in Marsala — from Florio to Donnafugata, along with local estates — participate in the initiative with themed evenings, gala dinners, and guided tours of the ancient barrels.
Included in the summer calendar of the Municipality of Marsala and the national network of the Movimento Turismo del Vino, the event attracts tourists and curious visitors every year, transforming the seafront and the wine routes into a large open-air lounge. Calici di Stelle is the perfect opportunity to discover the oenological soul of the Trapani province and Western Sicily, toasting together under the August stars. Between one glass and another, the evening becomes a journey into the culture of Marsala wine, made of ancient knowledge, native grape varieties, and a landscape — that of the Stagnone, the salt pans, and Mozia — which is itself a heritage to be savored slowly, far from the frenzy of summer days.
For summer 2026, Calici di Stelle returns to Marsala with a series of events between August 10th and 15th, in the heart of the shooting star season. The event, promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, offers tastings of local wines — from Marsala to Sicilian whites — accompanied by live music and astronomical observation sessions. Announced venues include Vie del Vento, in the Stagnone Nature Reserve. The detailed calendar of evenings, including times, pairings, and prices for individual wineries, will be released closer to the event.
