The most delicious feast in the Belìce Valley, featuring artisanal sausage, wine, and tradition
The Santa Ninfa Sausage Festival is one of the most cherished food and wine events in Western Sicily. Every year, in early August, the heart of this town in the Belìce Valley, within the Trapani province, comes alive for two evenings dedicated to the product that made it famous: artisanal sausage, prepared according to a tradition spanning over a century. The event, which began in the 1990s, has grown to attract over 60,000 visitors in a single weekend, becoming the town's most important summer event.
The absolute star is the local sausage, handmade by village butchers using pork, salt from the Trapani salt pans, and local herbs. Along the avenues, you can discover numerous variations: with wild fennel, Belìce lemon, sun-dried tomato, or caciocavallo cheese. Alongside the classic grilled version, the stalls offer creative interpretations such as sausage arancine and busiate, the typical pasta from Trapani. The supply chain is fully traceable: at the tasting stations, data is displayed showing the origin of the meat, a sign of growing attention to quality and transparency.
The festival is also a journey through the flavors of Sicilian cuisine: warm ricotta, grilled meats, traditional pastries, and typical Belìce products. A dedicated stall is available for celiac visitors, with gluten-free options. Over the years, the event has also opened its doors to international influences, with Venezuelan dishes like arepas and empanadas, a result of the historic bond between Santa Ninfa and its community of emigrants.
The evenings are accompanied by live music until late at night and conclude on Sunday with a fireworks display over the town. During the weekend, it is also possible to visit the "Nino Cordio" Museum and the Emigration Museum for free, which tell the cultural identity and history of a land deeply marked by the 1968 Belìce earthquake and its subsequent rebirth. To facilitate access, free parking is provided at the entrance to the town with a shuttle service.
The Sausage Festival is organized by the Municipality of Santa Ninfa in collaboration with local merchants and butchers, with the support of the Sicilian Region and the Trapani province. More than just a simple feast, it is an occasion for civic pride and regional promotion, where the sausage becomes an ambassador for the culture, tourism, and economy of Santa Ninfa and the entire Belìce Valley.
The 2026 edition of the Santa Ninfa Sausage Festival will be held on August 8 and 9 in the town center, in the province of Trapani. As per tradition, over forty stalls will offer local sausage in its many variations, accompanied by local wine, warm ricotta, busiate, and traditional pastries, with a space dedicated to gluten-free options. The evenings will be enlivened by live music and will conclude with fireworks. The full program of performances will be communicated by the municipal administration in the weeks preceding the event.
Santa Ninfa can be reached by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, taking the Salemi exit and continuing along the SS119. The nearest airport is Trapani-Birgi, about an hour away; alternatively, Palermo airport is about 90 minutes away.
During the festival, free parking areas are set up at the entrance to the town, with a shuttle service to the center.
Access to the event is free; tastings and dishes are paid for directly at the individual stalls.
