The finest Apulian sparkling wines at the Castle of Monte Sant'Angelo
Bollicine di Puglia is the wine event that transforms the Castle of Monte Sant'Angelo, in the province of Foggia, into a grand open-air tasting experience every summer, showcasing the region's best sparkling wines. The event is organized by the AIS Sommeliers of the Foggia Delegation (Italian Sommelier Association - Puglia), in collaboration with the Municipality of Monte Sant'Angelo, and has established itself as one of the most anticipated dates on the Apulian food and wine calendar.
The choice of location is no coincidence: the Norman-Swabian-Angevin-Aragonese Castle dominates the Gargano village of Monte Sant'Angelo, a city recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo. Strolling through the castle walls and walkways, glass in hand, as evening falls over the Gargano, is an experience that uniquely blends wine culture, history, and landscape.
The heart of the event is the grand evening tasting station, featuring over 100 labels of Apulian sparkling wines poured by AIS sommeliers. The tasting journey is complemented by gourmet pairings featuring local products and live music. Alongside the tasting stations, the program includes thematic masterclasses led by experts, focusing on specific types of sparkling wines, collaborations with other AIS regional delegations, and Italy's great classic methods.
Beyond promoting the growing quality of Apulian sparkling wine production, Bollicine di Puglia is an opportunity to discover Monte Sant'Angelo and the Gargano, from wineries to extra virgin olive oil, cheeses, and other local specialties. The event attracts wine tourists and enthusiasts from all over the region, confirming the Gargano town's role as a premier destination for wine tourism in Puglia.
The 2026 edition, presented as the most extensive to date, spans two days at the Castle of Monte Sant'Angelo. It opens on Friday, July 24 with the "Bollicine di Mare" masterclass (7:00 PM), led by Dr. Giuseppe Baldassarre in the elegant hall of the Castle apartments, followed by the "Aspettando Bollicine" preview starting at 8:30 PM in Piazza Beneficenza.
On Saturday, July 25, the morning (11:00 AM) is dedicated to the "Il tempo del Trentodoc Millesimato" masterclass at Ristorante La Rocca, focusing on classic methods from Trentino. In the evening, starting at 8:00 PM, the Castle transforms into a grand open-air tasting circuit featuring over 100 labels of Apulian sparkling wines.
The tasting station is accompanied by five culinary pairings: Oyster Oasis oysters, a selection of cheeses from Mungi e Mangia in Monte Sant'Angelo, first courses from the In Villa and I Templari restaurants, the gourmet sandwich by Sommelier Clandestino, and Apulian extra virgin olive oils paired with breads from Forno Frisoli.
The event is organized by AIS Puglia - Foggia Delegation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Monte Sant'Angelo.
Monte Sant'Angelo is located on the Gargano promontory, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Poggio Imperiale-Apricena or Foggia exit) and then following the Gargano road network. The main railway station is Foggia, which is connected to the village by bus services. The event takes place at the Castle, in the historic center.
Access to the evening tasting station and masterclasses requires a ticket, which can be purchased online or at designated sales points indicated by the organizers. Combined event + masterclass packages are available.
We recommend arriving early to find parking in the historic center and booking masterclasses in advance, as spots are limited. For information: AIS Puglia Secretariat, tel. 080 4949189, [email protected].
