About Bagna Caöda in Faule

Every mid-October, the small town of Faule in the province of Cuneo transforms into the capital of bagna caöda. For six days, this village near the Monviso mountain celebrates the most convivial dish of the Piedmontese tradition with lunches and dinners featuring the legendary dip made of garlic, anchovies, and oil, paired with seasonal vegetables and fine local wines. With dance evenings, markets, exhibitions, excursions in the Monviso Park, and the awarding of the 'Fujot d'Oro', the Bagna Caöda Festival attracts thousands of visitors from across Piedmont and beyond every year.

The festival that made Faule famous

In the heart of the Saluzzo plains, just a few kilometres from the Po river and in the shadow of the Monviso, the small town of Faule (Cuneo province, Piedmont) boasts one of the most beloved and popular food and wine festivals of the Piedmontese autumn. When the first frosts cover the fields and it is time to light the fireplace, it is bagna caöda season: and that is when Faule lights its fujot (traditional warmers) and kicks off a celebration that, in its 2026 edition, reaches the prestigious milestone of its 30th anniversary.

A dish recognized as a Traditional Agri-Food Product

The bagna caöda of Faule is no ordinary festival: in December 2025, its recipe was officially recognized as the 345th Traditional Agri-Food Product (PAT) of the Piedmont Region, following a proposal by the Region and thanks to the work of the Accademia della Bagna Caoda di Faule. The local version is distinguished by the addition of a substantial amount of cream and milk of Piedmontese origin, which evokes the great dairy tradition of the Cuneo plains and makes the dip softer and more delicate.

Impressive event numbers

Behind the village's familiar atmosphere lie figures of a truly major event: recent editions have seen over 20,000 visitors and more than 10,000 tastings, with the preparation of approximately 1,600 kg of bagna caöda, made with 400 kg of anchovies and 400 kg of Caraglio garlic. The catering service is organized in a self-service format at the refreshment points set up between the Old Distillery and the Monviso Park.

What to experience during the festival

The Bagna Caöda Festival is much more than just a meal: it is a rich programme that brings the town to life for six days. Among the events that are renewed every year:

  • Bagna caöda lunches and dinners every day, with seasonal vegetables and DOC wines from Piedmont;
  • Dance evenings with Piedmontese ballroom orchestras and live concerts;
  • The opening ceremony with the awarding of the Fujot d'Oro, the event's symbolic prize;
  • Market featuring local products, handicrafts, and antiques, usually on Sunday morning;
  • Art exhibitions, workshops, and games for children, and dessert competitions;
  • Nature excursions in the Monviso Park, train rides to the 'Area Fontane', guided walks, and vintage car and motorcycle rallies.

A twinning that looks to France

In recent years, the festival has consolidated a bond with the French Provence and the city of Arles, with guest delegations and cultural exchange moments that enrich the calendar. A detail that tells of the transalpine vocation of this corner of Piedmont, which has always been a crossroads of flavours and people.

An unmissable autumn appointment

Visiting Faule for the Bagna Caöda Festival means experiencing the Piedmontese autumn in its most authentic form: the warmth of conviviality around the fujot, the scent of garlic and anchovies, and the generosity of a community of a few hundred inhabitants capable of welcoming tens of thousands of visitors. An experience that combines gastronomy, tradition, and landscape, with the Monviso as a backdrop.
