Forlimpopoli, capital of good food in the name of Pellegrino Artusi
The Artusi Festival is the major gastronomic and cultural event that enlivens the historic center of Forlimpopoli every summer, a town in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. The festival is dedicated to Pellegrino Artusi (Forlimpopoli, 1820), the gastronome author of 'La scienza in cucina e l'arte di mangiar bene' (The Science of Cooking and the Art of Eating Well), the work that codified Italian home cooking by collecting about 790 recipes and is considered the manifesto of the country's gastronomic tradition.
For nine consecutive evenings, the historic center of Forlimpopoli transforms into the capital of good eating: streets and squares are renamed with the names of Artusi's recipes and host restaurateur stands, where you can taste traditional Romagna and Italian dishes. The atmosphere is that of a large, widespread banquet, with sounds, aromas, and flavors mingling from alley to alley.
Alongside the gastronomic offerings, the festival provides a rich cultural and entertainment program. The heart of the initiatives is Casa Artusi, the center for gastronomic culture that coordinates conferences, book presentations, workshops, and show cooking with the Artusi Cooks Association. Street performances, juggling, storytelling, magic, and live music unfold along the streets of the center, while the market offers high-quality local and artisanal products.
The symbolic moment is the Marietta Award, the historic gastronomic competition reserved for amateur chefs, which calls enthusiasts from all over Italy to compete with original recipes inspired by tradition, in homage to Marietta Sabatini, Artusi's housekeeper and cook. The festival also awards the Pellegrino Artusi Award to personalities who have distinguished themselves in food culture.
Established in 1997, the Artusi Festival has grown to become one of Romagna's leading food and wine events, attracting thousands of visitors each evening. Organized by the Municipality of Forlimpopoli, the event combines the memory of Artusi with the vitality of an entire community, which for nine days showcases its identity of hospitality, conviviality, and good food.
The thirtieth edition of the Artusi Festival takes place in Forlimpopoli from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, July 5, 2026. An edition marking the event's thirty years and coinciding with the year Italian cuisine was recognized as cultural heritage.
The traditional events that characterize the festival are confirmed: show cooking sessions with the Artusi Cooks Association, cultural moments curated by Casa Artusi, the Marietta Award competition for amateur chefs, and the Foodland project, developed in collaboration with AICCRE. Piazza Garibaldi will be one of the central hubs of the event. Admission remains free.
The complete evening program, including guest lineups, schedules, and event locations in the squares and streets of the historic center, will be released by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the festival.
Forlimpopoli is located along the Via Emilia, between Forlì and Cesena. By car: exit at Forlì or Cesena Nord from the A14 motorway, then take the SS9 Via Emilia. By train: Forlimpopoli station is on the Bologna-Rimini line; alternatively, alight at Forlì or Cesena with bus connections.
Admission to the festival is free. The evenings come alive from the early evening (usually from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM) until late at night. Some specific activities (guided tours, experiences, themed routes) may require a small fee and booking.
It is advisable to reach the historic center on foot, leaving your car in the peripheral parking lots. Reservations are generally not required for the restaurateur stands. Casa Artusi is the reference point for the cultural program.
