Five author evenings among the squares and courtyards of Forlì's historic center

Storie di Forlì is a summer literary review that enlivens the historic center of the capital of the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in 2024, the event offers a series of evening encounters where authors, historians, and local scholars present their books dedicated to the city, its memory, and the events of Romagna. Promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Forlì and curated by the Libraries Unit of the Culture and Tourism Service, the review is part of the broader program "Explore Forlì: between museums and narratives", a free cultural journey that combines guided tours of monuments, museums, and the city's artistic treasures.
The formula that makes Storie di Forlì special is the choice of locations: each encounter is held in a different space within the historic center, often little-known or usually closed to the public. Churchyards, hidden squares, gardens, and courtyards become open-air auditoriums for one evening. It is a way to invite the people of Forlì and visitors to rediscover the city, walking from corner to corner and listening to the stories that each place holds.
The events have a simple and engaging format: a journalist hosts and moderates the dialogue with the author, who talks about their book and answers the audience's questions. Themes range from the history of trade in Romagna to popular devotions, from historical figures linked to Forlì such as Caterina Sforza and Giovanni dalle Bande Nere to the artistic heritage of the civic museums.
The review is part of the cultural ferment that characterizes Forlì, a city that holds treasures such as the San Domenico museum complex, the Basilica of San Mercuriale, and the abbey with its Romanesque bell tower. Storie di Forlì enhances this identity by inviting the community to better understand its roots, in a summer, convivial atmosphere accessible to all.
The Storie di Forlì review is a now-established summer event in the city's historic center, which had its first editions in 2024 and 2025. For the summer of 2026, a new series of author evenings is expected, promoted by the Department of Culture and curated by the Libraries Unit, as part of the "Explore Forlì: between museums and narratives" program.
Currently, the detailed program for the 2026 edition, with the precise dates of the encounters and the names of the guest authors, has not yet been published. The format is expected to remain the same as in previous editions: free evening encounters, in various outdoor spaces of the historic center, starting at 8:45 PM. This page will be updated as soon as the Municipality of Forlì announces the official calendar.
The review takes place in the summer, from July to August, with five evening encounters on Tuesdays. All events start at 8:45 PM.
The encounters are held in various outdoor spaces in Forlì's historic center (churchyards, small squares, gardens, and courtyards). The venues change each evening and are announced in the official program.
All encounters are free, with no reservation required, subject to availability.
Forlì is easily accessible by train (Forlì station on the Bologna–Rimini line) and by car via the A14 motorway, Forlì exit. The historic center is a short walk from the station.
