Words, music, and images in Pascoli's places
In San Mauro Pascoli, a small municipality in the Province of Forlì-Cesena overlooking the Rubicone valley, The Garden of Poetry comes to life every summer, a festival dedicated to Giovanni Pascoli, born here in 1855. Subtitled Words, music, and images in Pascoli's places, the event celebrates the deep bond between the poet and his native land, bringing culture right into the spaces where he spent his childhood.
The evenings take place in two symbolic locations: the garden of Casa Pascoli, the birthplace now a museum, and Villa Torlonia, home to the Pascoli Poetry Park, with its famous Tower. Intimate and evocative settings, where listening to verses and music at sunset takes on an almost ritualistic value.
The program, built each year around a common theme, alternates different registers and offers a journey that spans genres and languages:
Over the years, the festival has hosted renowned names in Italian theater and culture, from David Riondino to Lucilla Giagnoni, from Ivano Marescotti to numerous poets and dialectologists, always with a keen eye on language, the Romagnol dialect, and the literary memory of the territory.
Promoted by the Municipality of San Mauro Pascoli and organized by the Sammauroindustria Association, in collaboration with the Pascoli Academy, The Garden of Poetry is one of the longest-running and most distinctive initiatives of the Sammauro Summer. The artistic direction is curated by Gianfranco Miro Gori. Throughout its editions, the event has consolidated a loyal audience, attracted by the quality of its offerings and the intimate atmosphere of its venues.
More than just a summer festival, The Garden of Poetry is a way to keep the dialogue alive with one of the greatest Italian poets of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In Emilia-Romagna, the land that gave birth to Pascoli, the event invites residents and visitors to rediscover his verses not as pages to be studied, but as words to be heard in the places that inspired them, under the Romagnol sky.
The 2026 edition marks an important milestone for The Garden of Poetry: the 30th edition. The confirmed dates run from Friday, July 17 to Wednesday, August 5, 2026, with the usual venues at the garden of Casa Pascoli and Villa Torlonia - Pascoli Poetry Park.
As tradition dictates, the festival will offer a series of free evenings featuring poetry readings, music, meetings, and tributes to the figure of Giovanni Pascoli and Romagnol culture. The complete schedule of events, including guest names and times, will be released by the Sammauroindustria Association and the Municipality of San Mauro Pascoli closer to the event.
