A gourmet festival at 2,820 meters

The Apfelkiachl-Fest is one of the most characteristic culinary events of the summer in Solda (Sulden), the renowned alpine resort in the municipality of Stelvio (Stilfs), in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The festival takes place at the Rifugio Madriccio (Madritschhütte), perched at an impressive 2,820 meters above sea level facing the majestic Ortler group, within the Stelvio National Park.

Apfelkiachl, the stars of the day

At the heart of the festival are Apfelkiachl, the traditional South Tyrolean apple fritters: apple slices dipped in a light batter and fried until golden and crispy, then dusted with sugar. During the event, the fritters are prepared on the spot and offered as a free tasting to all hikers reaching the mountain hut, a gesture of hospitality that reflects the warm tradition of South Tyrolean alpine pastures.

Music and mountain atmosphere

The tastings are accompanied by live music, creating a festive and convivial atmosphere on the hut's panoramic terrace. Between a fritter and a drink, visitors can admire the view of the Ortler, savor regional specialties from the mountain kitchen, and enjoy a relaxing day at high altitude, immersed in the nature of the Stelvio National Park.

An easily accessible mountain hut

Despite the altitude, the Rifugio Madriccio is easily reachable thanks to the Solda all'Ortles cable cars: the panoramic cable car and the Madriccio chairlift take visitors just a few steps from the facility, making the festival accessible even to families and those who are not experienced hikers.
