About Alpini Barbecue

In Polonghera, a small town in the Cuneo plains, Easter Monday has a distinct flavor: that of the Alpini Easter Monday Barbecue. Organized by the local Alpini Group, this is a simple, authentic community lunch featuring grilled meats, local cheeses, and traditional Piedmontese desserts. It is a convivial occasion to gather around the table after Easter, in the company of the 'black feathers' and the entire village, with proceeds often supporting local charitable initiatives.

An Easter Monday tradition in the heart of the Cuneo plains

Every Easter Monday, in Polonghera—a small town in the Province of Cuneo, located in the lower Piedmontese plains just a stone's throw from the Po river—the town's most anticipated spring event returns: the Alpini Easter Monday Barbecue. It is organized by the Polonghera Alpini Group, which opens its doors every year for a community lunch for members, families, friends, and visitors, with the invaluable collaboration of the 'friends of the Alpini'.

The Alpini spirit on the table

More than just a lunch, the Barbecue is a collective celebration that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the 'black feathers': conviviality, solidarity, and a love for local traditions. The long tables, the scent of meat on the grill, and the joy that fills the day make this event one of the most cherished in Polonghera's calendar. It is proof that even in the small towns of Piedmont, festivals and social lunches remain a fundamental glue for community life.

What to eat

The menu is the real star, focusing on genuine and hearty cuisine:

  • Chicken salad as an appetizer
  • Mixed grill with ribs, sausage, and chicken wings
  • Fresh tomato salad
  • Local cheeses: toma del Ghigo and gorgonzola
  • Bonet with cream, the classic Piedmontese spoon dessert
  • Fruit salad with ice cream
  • Coffee and digestifs

The lunch is accompanied by local wines: Nebbiolo and Favorita, as well as water.

A charitable event

The Alpini Barbecue in Polonghera is not just about gastronomy: in several editions, the proceeds have been donated to local charities, such as the Oasi dei Bimbi in Polonghera, confirming the spirit of solidarity that has always characterized the association. Participating means combining the pleasure of good food with support for the local community.

Who is it for?

The event is open to everyone, including families: children have reduced rates, and the youngest ones participate for free. It is the ideal occasion for those who want to experience an authentic Easter Monday, far from the crowds of more touristy destinations, while discovering the hospitality of a village in the Cuneo plains and the true flavors of Piedmont.
