Discovering dandelions and wild mountain herbs in Val di Rabbi
The Zicoria FestiVal di Sole is the spring event that brings Val di Rabbi to life every year. Situated in the municipality of Rabbi, in the province of Trento, the valley lies within the Stelvio National Park. Now in its sixth edition in 2026, the festival celebrates the dandelion—known in the local dialect as "zicoria"—and the wild mountain herbs that sprout as the Alpine nature awakens.
Zicoria is a herb renowned for its detoxifying, digestive, and antioxidant properties. Its slightly bitter flavor makes it incredibly versatile in the kitchen, perfect for everything from appetizers to desserts. This humble yet generous plant is the heart of the festival: an invitation to rediscover the ancient bond between the local community and its land, blending farming wisdom, wellness, and seasonality.
The festival takes place over two weekends in late spring, offering a rich calendar of experiences spread throughout Val di Rabbi:
The Zicoria FestiVal di Sole is organized by the Val di Sole Tourist Board (APT Val di Sole) and is part of the broader "Aprile Dolce Fiorire" (Sweet April Bloom) project, dedicated to the spring blossoms of western Trentino. It is accompanied by the "Magnamour Primavera" gastronomic event, where restaurants across Val di Sole and Val di Non offer special herb-themed menus. The festival seamlessly blends nature, wellness, and gastronomy into an authentic experience in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige mountains.
The sixth edition of the Zicoria FestiVal di Sole was held in Val di Rabbi over two spring weekends, April 24-26 and May 1-3, 2026, with the dandelion as the central theme.
The first weekend featured mountain farming experiences at Agritur Ruatti, a guided walk to identify herbs, and a canederli workshop at Maso Fior di Bosco, alongside family activities and the Spring Market in Plan. The second weekend included spring pastry workshops, wild herb foraging hikes, visits to the Segheria Veneziana dei Bégoi and the Casél di Somrabbi, barefoot meadow walks led by a naturopath, and lunch at Malga Monte Sole with an herb-based menu and local craft beers.
Val di Rabbi can be reached by car by driving up the Val di Sole from the SS42 road; from Malé, continue towards Rabbi. By train, you can arrive in Malé via the Trento-Malé-Mezzana railway, then continue by bus or car. The nearest airport is Verona.
