The historic Romagna wild boar festival in the hills of Brisighella
The Zattaglia Wild Boar Festival is one of the most deeply rooted and appreciated gastronomic events in the Ravenna hinterland. Originating in the small hamlet of Zattaglia, a village nestled at the foot of Monte Mauro and the Vena del Gesso, between the hills of Brisighella and Casola Valsenio, the festival has grown edition after edition to become a spring classic in Emilia-Romagna. Due to the damage caused by the 2023 flood, the event now takes place in the municipality of Brisighella, in the province of Ravenna, in the area of Via Dionisio di Naldo (the former Gufo parking lot).
The heart of the festival is, of course, the cuisine, managed by volunteers from the Gruppo Sportivo Valsintria with homemade pasta and traditional Romagna recipes. On the table are the festival's greatest classics:
Accompanying the dishes are wines from the Faenza hills and the unmissable conviviality of village festivals.
In addition to good food, the Zattaglia Wild Boar Festival offers a different music and entertainment program every evening: from liscio orchestras to rock bands, from DJ sets to themed events, with entertainment designed for all ages. On weekends, there are gatherings for car enthusiasts and initiatives to discover the village of Brisighella, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.
The festival is also an opportunity to visit Brisighella, famous for its Via degli Asini (Donkey Alley), the Clock Tower, and the Manfrediana Fortress, and to explore the Vena del Gesso Romagnola Park. A weekend of nature, tradition, and gastronomy, marked by Romagnola hospitality.
The Zattaglia Wild Boar Festival 2026 was held from May 14 to 18 in the Via Dionisio di Naldo area in Brisighella, extending the schedule to five days. The gastronomic stand offered dinner on Thursday and Friday, and lunch and dinner on the weekend and the concluding Monday.
Alongside the classic dishes — tortelli and pappardelle with wild boar ragù, stewed wild boar with polenta, roasted pork shanks, piadina, and desserts like ciambella and pesche alla crema — the 2026 edition featured some novelties, including grilled chicken thigh with local aromatic herbs and a revisited version of the 'woodland plate'. Every evening featured a different music and entertainment event, from liscio orchestras to rock bands.
