About Pig Festival

The Pig Festival, officially The Delicacies of the Pig, opens the calendar of the "4 Festivals for 3 Hills" that liven up the Sundays of November in the medieval village of Brisighella, in the municipality of the same name in the Province of Ravenna. It is a peasant festival that evokes the ancient ritual of pig processing, featuring the Mora Romagnola: in the streets of the historic center, you'll find food stalls with ciccioli, head cheese, hams, sausages, and the sweet migliaccio, amidst live music, a market of typical products, and a convivial atmosphere.

A festival that tells the story of Romagnola peasant tradition

The Delicacies of the Pig, known to everyone as the Pig Festival, is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the Romagna autumn. It takes place in the historic center of Brisighella, a medieval village nestled among the three hills of Monticino, Rocca, and Torre dell'Orologio, in the Municipality of Brisighella, Province of Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna). The event opens the cycle of the "4 Festivals for 3 Hills", four Sundays in November dedicated to the flavors of the land.

The ritual of the pig and the Mora Romagnola

The festival evokes the ancient peasant ritual of pig processing, once a fundamental part of the economy of colonial homes in the Apennines. The protagonist is the Mora Romagnola, an ancient native dark-coated pig breed, recovered in recent decades and now a symbol of the gastronomic biodiversity of the area. Along the village streets, pork butchers prepare and offer the most typical specialties.

What to eat

  • Hot, crispy, and fragrant ciccioli (pork cracklings)
  • Traditional head cheese and cured meats
  • Hams and sausages from Mora Romagnola pigs
  • Migliaccio, a humble dessert made with pig's blood, typical of peasant cuisine
  • Other typical products from the Faenza hills and the Apennines

Not just gastronomy

In addition to the food stalls, the day offers live music, entertainment for families, markets of local products, and the opportunity to stroll through one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with the famous Via degli Asini (Donkey Street) and the evocative staircase leading up to the Manfrediana Fortress. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Brisighella and represents an excellent opportunity to discover the DOP Brisighella extra virgin olive oil and the food and wine of the Romagna hills.
