The last Sunday of October in the medieval village of Brisighella, featuring lamb and mutton from the Lamone Valley, markets, and music
The Lamb and Mutton Festival is one of the most cherished autumn events in Brisighella, a charming medieval village in the province of Ravenna, recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Every year, on the last Sunday of October, the historic center transforms into a grand popular festival celebrating one of the gems of Romagna's hilly gastronomy: lamb and mutton raised in the Lamone Valley and the Faenza Apennines.
The stars of the festival are the sheep meats, a typical product of traditional farming that still follows a specific production protocol. Lamb and mutton, symbols of the peasant cuisine of the Faenza hills, are offered in numerous preparations: grilled chops, traditional sauces, stewed dishes, accompanied by seasonal side dishes and the inevitable Romagna piadina flatbread. To complete the experience, enjoy the wines from the Faenza hills.
In addition to the food stalls, the event features a rich market of local produce and crafts, showcasing the best of the Faenza Apennines. There are also sheep and goat exhibitions, popular re-enactments, entertainment, children's games, and live music that accompanies visitors through the village's streets and squares. Strolling through Brisighella on this day means discovering a vibrant town, among its famous towers and the Donkey Alley.
The festival is organized by the Pro Loco Brisighella, which has been curating this event, now an autumn classic in Romagna, for over twenty years. The festival is part of the calendar of feasts and festivals of the Municipality of Brisighella, in Emilia-Romagna, and attracts numerous visitors each year from all over Romagna and beyond, drawn by the genuine flavors and the authentic atmosphere of the medieval village.
The Lamb and Mutton Festival returns to Brisighella on Sunday, October 25, 2026, confirming its date on the last Sunday of October. The village's historic center will host the food stall with traditional dishes based on lamb and mutton, the market of local produce, and entertainment throughout the day.
Currently, the detailed schedule for the 2026 edition has not yet been published by Pro Loco Brisighella. Based on previous editions, the day typically includes the opening of the market in the morning, the food stall open until the evening, the exhibition of sheep and goats, live music, and games for children.
