A day in the heart of Alba dedicated to Piedmont's native grape varieties, featuring tastings, masterclasses, and meetings with producers.
The Wine Festival – Native Grape Varieties of Piedmont is the annual spring event that brings a grand celebration of regional oenological richness to the historic center of Alba, in the heart of the Langhe. Organized by the Go Wine association with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo, the event turns the city's streets and squares into a true wine trail for a day, where the public can stroll from booth to booth and meet producers in person.
The central theme of the festival is the biodiversity of the Piedmontese vineyard: more than 40 local grape varieties are showcased and offered for tasting throughout the day. Alongside major stars like Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Timorasso, there is space for lesser-known varieties, sometimes rescued from oblivion, such as Baratuciat, Bian Ver, Uvalino, Becuet, Caricalasino, Chatus, and Rossese bianco. It is a precious opportunity to discover an ampelographic heritage that goes far beyond the most famous denominations of the Langa and Roero regions.
In addition to the tasting booths, the day offers a program of exclusive thematic masterclasses led by experts, dedicated to specific in-depth studies. Each edition also hosts a guest country, featuring a selection of wines that broadens the perspective beyond Italian borders, offering visitors a stimulating comparison between different territories and wine cultures.
The ideal setting for the event is Alba, the symbolic city of the Langhe and home of the white truffle, internationally recognized as one of Italy's wine capitals. The historic center, with its medieval palaces and towers, gives the Wine Festival a unique atmosphere, where the food and wine culture of Piedmont intertwines with the city's history and architecture. The event confirms itself as an unmissable stop for enthusiasts and those who want to get to know the wine-growing soul of the region up close.
