Wine and Varrajine: The Autumn Wine Festival in Tollo

Wine and Varrajine is an autumn food and wine event held in the historic center of Tollo, a small town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Tolle Me APS with the patronage of the Municipality and is dedicated to new wine, chestnuts, and the flavors of local rustic cuisine.

Varrajine and Ribbatte: The Dishes Behind the Name

The event's name comes from Varrajine (locally known as "Virrajine") and Ribbatte, traditional peasant dishes that define the village's gastronomic identity. Alongside these signature dishes, stalls offer chestnuts, mushrooms, truffles, polenta with sausages, crespelle, new wine, and mulled wine, creating a culinary journey through the village streets.

Tollo: City of Wine

Tollo is one of the most important wine-producing centers in Abruzzo: much of its agricultural land is covered in vineyards, and the village has earned the title of City of Wine. Here, wine is not just a product but a core part of the local identity, evidenced by the Wine Museum and the strong presence of local wineries. Wine and Varrajine fits into this context as a celebration that bridges the recently concluded harvest with the conviviality of late autumn.
