The widespread performing arts festival in the villages of the Chieti area
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Founded in 2018, Artinvita — International Festival of Abruzzo is a performing arts festival that has chosen Orsogna, a small town in the province of Chieti, and the surrounding inland villages of Abruzzo as its home. Conceived and organized by the Associazione Insensi under Italian-French artistic direction, the festival brings contemporary dance, theatre, installations, cinema, and music to Abruzzo every year, featuring artists from all over Europe and the Mediterranean.
The unique feature of Artinvita is its widespread nature: performances and installations are not concentrated in a single venue but span multiple towns. The Teatro Comunale Camillo De Nardis in Orsogna is the heart of the event, but the programme also reaches Arielli and Crecchio, involving deconsecrated churches, historic palaces, auditoriums, and open-air spaces. In this way, the festival enhances the architectural and landscape heritage of the small Abruzzo towns, restoring international cultural life to them.
The Artinvita programme weaves together different languages:
Many events stem from international co-productions and European projects like the Nouveau Grand Tour, which bring French and Italian artists closer together.
Attentive to themes of ecology, collective memory, and the relationship between man and landscape, Artinvita is much more than a simple festival: it is a cultural stronghold for the Chieti province hinterland and for the whole of Abruzzo. From 2026, the festival has begun a transformation towards a programming model distributed throughout the year, with an increasingly close dialogue with local communities and institutions.
For 2026, Artinvita announces a change in configuration: the festival intends to distribute its programming throughout the entire year, moving beyond the formula concentrated in a single week and strengthening the dialogue with the Chieti province territory. The dates and the full programme for the 2026 edition have not yet been made public. It is recommended to consult the official website www.artinvita.com and the festival's social media channels for updates.
Orsogna is located in the hinterland of the Chieti province, in Abruzzo. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway (Ortona or Val di Sangro exits) by continuing inland. The nearest train station is in Ortona, on the Adriatic line, from where you can continue by bus or car. The reference airport is the Abruzzo Airport in Pescara.
Individual events have affordable tickets (roughly from 2 to 18 euros for shows and installations; dinner-shows have a dedicated price with mandatory reservation). The programme and pre-sales are published on the official website www.artinvita.com. For information: [email protected], tel. +39 328 2568178.
