The authentic taste of the Mugello at the Circolo MCL in Scarperia
The Wild Boar and Tortello Festival organized by the Circolo MCL is one of the most anticipated food and wine events in the calendar of Scarperia e San Piero, a town in the Province of Florence nestled in the Mugello hills. For two weekends in March, the clubhouse on Via San Martino transforms into a large, convivial dining hall where age-old recipes take center stage, prepared according to traditional Tuscan country methods.
The menu revolves around two pillars of Mugello cuisine. On one hand, the Mugello tortello, fresh handmade pasta filled with potatoes, served with meat sauces or wild boar ragรน; on the other, wild boar, prepared as a stew, roasted, or featured in numerous traditional recipes. Other local specialties are also available, from pappardelle to grilled meats, for a complete meal that tells the story of the authentic flavors of the Florentine countryside.
Unlike many summer festivals, this event takes place in the middle of winter. For this reason, the kitchens and dining rooms of the Circolo MCL are set up in a covered and heated space, allowing you to savor the dishes in comfort and tranquility, even in rain or cold weather. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Mugello hospitality and the genuine atmosphere of a local social club, far from the frantic pace of large city events.
The festival is also a great excuse to visit Scarperia, an ancient village of Florentine origin famous for its knife-making and metalwork, as well as its Palazzo dei Vicari. Those visiting on a Sunday can combine lunch or dinner with a stroll through the historic center, discovering one of the most characteristic villages in the Mugello, located just a short distance from the Mugello International Circuit.
In 2026, the Circolo MCL of Scarperia once again hosted its festival dedicated to the flavors of the Mugello, spread over two weekends in March. On the menu were the great traditional classics: handmade potato tortelli from the Mugello, pappardelle with wild boar, polenta with wild boar, wild boar stew and roast, as well as skewers, steak, sausages, and pork ribs. The kitchens, set up in a covered and heated space, welcomed visitors on Saturday evenings from 7:00 PM and on Sundays for lunch (from 12:00 PM) and dinner.
