A candlelight evening in the historic center of Morozzo, featuring biodiversity, music, and stars
The White Night in Nature is a truly unique appointment in the landscape of Cuneo's events: an evening where the historic center of Morozzo, a small town in the Province of Cuneo overlooking the Crava-Morozzo Nature Oasis, lets itself be enveloped by darkness to rediscover the beauty of the night. Public lighting is switched off in the area between the Church and the Brichetto Sanctuary, and the entire route, starting from the Castle entrance, is illuminated only by candles.
More than just an event, the White Night in Nature was born as a respectful festival: an occasion that combines entertainment and educational content, emotion and awareness. The common thread is reflection on the relationship between man and the environment, with special attention to the themes of light pollution, biodiversity protection, and sustainability. Along the town's streets, there are exhibitions dedicated to nature and science, street artist performances, shadow theater, readings, educational workshops, and games designed for children.
The soundtrack of the evening is entrusted to live music with acoustic instruments, from the harp to the piano and strings, with the participation of students from the "Luigi Vizio" Intermunicipal School of Music in Morozzo. One of the most anticipated moments is the release of nocturnal birds of prey cared for by the LIPU Recovery Center in Asti, accompanied by explanations about nocturnal animals. There is also no shortage of astronomical observations, made possible thanks to the collaboration with observatories and scientific projects that turn Morozzo's dark sky into an open-air classroom.
The event is promoted by LIPU in collaboration with the Municipality of Morozzo, the Pro Loco, the Opera Pia Peyrone Foundation, and numerous local associations, with the contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo Foundation. The refreshment area managed by the Pro Loco completes the evening with a convivial outdoor offering, perfect for experiencing the night in company, amidst the flickering lights of candles and the starry sky of southern Piedmont.
The 2026 edition of the White Night in Nature once again transformed the historic center of Morozzo into a path illuminated only by candles, with the public lighting switched off between the Church and the Brichetto Sanctuary. The evening, dedicated to children, teenagers, and families, offered live music, exhibitions, shows, sky observations, and educational activities on the themes of biodiversity and light pollution.
The main novelty of this edition was the collaboration with the NOCTIS project (Network Osservatorio Coordinato di Telescopi per l'Insegnamento e la Scienza), an initiative funded by the Ministry of University and Research, which enriched the astronomical observations curated by Claudio Fantino of the Fantino Observatory.
All activities take place by candlelight along the path from the Castle towards the Brichetto Sanctuary.
During the evening, the DoReMi Campus (September 2-4, 2026) of the "Luigi Vizio" School of Music was also presented.
The White Night in Nature takes place on one evening, generally in summer or early autumn, starting from 7:00 PM (times may vary from edition to edition).
Historic center of Morozzo (CN), along the path that leads from the Castle entrance towards the Brichetto Sanctuary. Public lighting is turned off: it is recommended to bring a small flashlight for moving around.
