Cuneo's early music festival, blending tradition with innovation
Modulazioni is the early music festival of Cuneo, the capital of the province of the same name in Piedmont. Created to bring Renaissance and Baroque repertoires back to the forefront, the festival has quickly established a distinct identity: fostering a dialogue between tradition and innovation, pairing lutes, viols, harpsichords, and ancient voices with contemporary sensibilities. The 2026 edition, the fifth, is titled «Resounding» and focuses heavily on English repertoire, madrigals, and Baroque themes.
What sets Modulazioni apart from standard concert series is its structure: three weekends spread throughout the year—one in February, one in June, and the final one in September. Each weekend has its own character but remains part of a cohesive journey, allowing the audience to follow the entire festival or choose the moments that intrigue them most. This choice transforms Modulazioni into a recurring fixture of Cuneo's cultural life rather than a fleeting event.
Concerts are held in iconic locations in Cuneo's city center: the San Francesco Monumental Complex, the Church of San Sebastiano, the Rondò dei Talenti, the Circolo 'L Caprissi, and the Diocesan Museum. These spaces, with their unique acoustics and history, become an integral part of the listening experience: early music finds its natural resonance within these naves and vaults, providing an immersive experience that is difficult to replicate in a conventional concert hall.
The Modulazioni stage hosts internationally acclaimed performers: from lutenist Elisa La Marca to violinist Amandine Beyer with the ensemble Gli Incogniti, the Duo Arparla, the award-winning Compagnia del Madrigale, and the production of Henry Purcell's opera «Dido and Aeneas». Alongside the major concerts, the festival fosters education through professional workshops and Modulazioni Kids, a series for children and families designed to introduce the youngest listeners to early music.
Modulazioni is produced by Maestro Società Cooperativa and organized by Noau officina culturale, with the support of the City of Cuneo, the Ministry of Culture, and the Fondazione CRC. This institutional backing confirms the festival's role as a benchmark for early music in Piedmont and the Northwest.
The 5th edition of Modulazioni is titled «Resounding» and spans three weekends throughout the year, hosted in the churches and historic spaces of Cuneo. The common thread is the English repertoire, interwoven with madrigals, vocal polyphony, and Baroque instrumental music.
The February weekend opens the festival with the polyphony of «Oltre il visibile» and a lute recital by Elisa La Marca; the June weekend features Amandine Beyer with Gli Incogniti, the Duo Arparla, and La Compagnia del Madrigale; the final weekend in September culminates in Henry Purcell's opera «Dido and Aeneas». Running in parallel is Modulazioni Kids, dedicated to children and families.
Parallel series for children and families, created with InCantabimbi: performances on February 22, March 22, April 12, and May 10 (5:00 PM, Rondò dei Talenti).
Concerts take place in Cuneo's historic center: San Francesco Monumental Complex (via Santa Maria 10), Church of San Sebastiano (contrada Mondovì), Rondò dei Talenti (via Gallo 1), Circolo 'L Caprissi (piazza Boves 3), and the Diocesan Museum.
By train: Cuneo station is connected to Turin and the regional network; the historic center is within walking distance. By car: A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway, with parking available near the center.
Some concerts are free (reservation required), while others have affordable tickets (around €10). Presale available via Eventbrite and ticket.it.
