Welcoming the summer in the Gargano village of Ischitella
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Welcome Festival is the event with which Ischitella, a village perched on the slopes of the Gargano promontory in the province of Foggia, greets the arrival of summer and opens its doors to the many visitors who choose this corner of Puglia every year. As the name suggests, it is a festival dedicated to hospitality: an invitation extended to tourists, vacationers, and locals returning home for the holidays, all welcomed into the heart of the historic center with music, gastronomy, and moments of shared joy.
The event traditionally takes place in late July, when the Gargano tourist season is in full swing. The evening brings the town's streets and squares to life, weaving through the stone houses of the ancient Terra Vecchia and Rione Ponte districts in a festive atmosphere that unites residents and guests. It is the signal that the long calendar of Ischitella's summer has officially begun, leading up to the major Ferragosto celebrations and the patronal feasts dedicated to Saint Roch and the Assumption of Mary.
Located just over 300 meters above sea level within the Gargano National Park, Ischitella overlooks a landscape where mountains, forests, the sea, and the lake converge. From the village, the view stretches to the coast, the Tremiti Islands, and, on the clearest days, the Croatian coastline. Known as the "city of oil and poetry," it is the birthplace of the jurist and historian Pietro Giannone. A few kilometers away lies the evocative Lake Varano, the largest coastal lagoon in Italy, on whose shores stands the ancient church of the Santissima Annunziata.
The Welcome Festival expresses the hospitable vocation of this Gargano community, a land of citrus fruits and high-quality extra virgin olive oil: the citrus fruits of the Gargano, including the Femminello orange and lemon, boast PGI status. The event is designed to introduce newcomers to the town's identity through typical products, folk traditions, and the warmth of the local people, offering a first taste of the atmosphere that will define the entire summer season.
The festival takes place in the Municipality of Ischitella, in the province of Foggia, Puglia. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: it is recommended to check the channels of the Municipality and local associations for the updated program as summer approaches.
