Food, wine, nature, and tradition in the heart of Castrofilippo
Vini & Flora Spontanea is the food, wine, and nature festival that brings Castrofilippo to life every spring. Located in the heart of Sicily, this small town in the province of Agrigento provides the perfect backdrop for the event. Launched in 2024, the festival aims to showcase the authentic flavors of the Agrigento region and the rich heritage of wild herbs and flora that grow naturally in the surrounding countryside.
The event's central theme is the dialogue between wine from local cellars and the wild herbs of the Mediterranean scrub. Tastings feature dishes prepared with local wild flora, paired with wines produced by wineries in Castrofilippo and the wider Agrigento area. It is a culinary journey that tells the story of simple, genuine peasant cooking, made with ingredients foraged from the fields and recipes passed down through generations.
Vini & Flora Spontanea is more than just a gastronomic event; a significant part of the program is dedicated to nature. Rural walks and treks are organized to explore the landscape surrounding the town, passing by ancient wine presses, mills, natural caves, and Mediterranean scrub. One of the most characteristic moments is the cutting swap, a simple gesture that recalls ancient practices of sharing and caring for the land, uniting participants in a small community of botany and gardening enthusiasts.
The festival is enriched with live musical entertainment and moments dedicated to families, including activities for children. The square transforms into a meeting place where the community of Castrofilippo welcomes visitors from neighboring towns in the Agrigento and Caltanissetta areas, in an atmosphere of celebration and authentic Sicilian hospitality.
Organized by the Associazione Usucasa in collaboration with local associations, Vini & Flora Spontanea has quickly become a highly anticipated spring appointment in Castrofilippo. With free admission and a friendly atmosphere, it is an ideal stop for those looking to discover an authentic corner of inland Sicily, far from the beaten tourist paths, amidst food, wine, folk traditions, and a love for nature.
The 2026 edition of Vini & Flora Spontanea, the third of the event, was held in Castrofilippo (Agrigento) on Friday, April 24, and Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Piazza Sant'Antonio Abate. The program featured tastings of dishes based on wild flora paired with local wines, outdoor walks to discover the countryside, the "hands-on" workshop, and plant swapping. There was also space for children's entertainment and Italian musical performances.
Friday, April 24 (from 6:30 PM): food and wine tastings, recreational activities, background music with DJ Albas, and an evening concert by the Yamisn Brothers band.
Sunday, April 26 (from 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM): shared breakfast, nature walk, "hands-on" workshop, community lunch, plant swapping, "Caffè Music" moment in the afternoon, and live music with Sergio Lo Cicero.
