Agricultural and horticultural market in the green heart of the Valley of the Temples
The Garden Market is an event promoted by FAI - The National Trust for Italy, held in the Kolymbethra Garden, the famous historic garden nestled within the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples, in the municipality of Agrigento. In this green corner of Sicily, a UNESCO World Heritage site and recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as one of the "rural landscapes of historical interest," the event celebrates the agricultural and horticultural vocation of one of the island's most iconic landscapes.
For an entire day, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, local producers and nurserymen bring a market of local excellence to life. It is the perfect opportunity to walk along the garden paths, among historic citrus groves, centuries-old olive trees, almond trees, prickly pears, and aromatic plants, discovering a careful selection of typical products and seasonal specialties from this ancient Agrigento landscape.
One of the most anticipated novelties is the opening of Case Montana, an 18th-century rural building restored by FAI and opened to the public for the first time. Inside, an immersive video narrative, featuring the voice and interpretation of actor Vincenzo Pirrotta, recounts the 2,600-year history of the Agrigento landscape, from the founding of the Greek colony of Akragas to the present day.
The initiative stems from the collaboration between FAI, the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples, the Order of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors of the province of Agrigento, and Confagricoltura Sicilia and Agrigento, united to enhance the historic agriculture and rural heritage of the area. The event is seasonal, with a spring and an autumn edition, to accompany visitors through the rhythms and different fruits of the garden throughout the year.
The Garden Market was born in 2026 with two seasonal appointments: the debut on Sunday, March 1st (during the almond blossom period) and a second date on Sunday, October 4th, in the heart of autumn. Both days take place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm in the Kolymbethra Garden, in Agrigento.
The edition also marks the first public opening of Case Montana, the 18th-century rural building restored by FAI, featuring an immersive narrative by actor Vincenzo Pirrotta on the 2,600-year history of the Agrigento landscape.
Second seasonal edition, in an autumn version, with a market of producers and nurserymen, themed guided tours, and children's workshops. The detailed program for the autumn appointment will be announced by FAI in the preceding weeks.
