Three days of tradition, exhibitions, music, and a street market in the heart of the Turin hills
When the Turin morainic hills are painted with the colors of spring, Villarbasse celebrates its most heartfelt event: the Spring Festival. For a full weekend in late May, the streets and squares of this small town in the Province of Turin, Piedmont, transform into a vibrant stage filled with music, art, local flavors, and popular traditions. For decades, this festival has marked the beginning of the beautiful season, attracting residents and visitors from the nearby Val Sangone and the Turin metropolitan area.
One of the distinctive features of the Spring Festival is the extraordinary opening of the town's historic palaces and churches, which host exhibitions, displays, and meetings for the occasion. The Torrazzo, Palazzo d'Angennes, and Palazzo Mistrot become venues for art, painting, and modeling exhibitions, while conferences and discussions on current topics enliven the parish hall. It is a wonderful way to rediscover the architectural heritage of Villarbasse and provide a platform for local artists and associations.
Music is the beating heart of the event: from evening concerts in Piazza del Municipio to performances by local bands and singers, the festival offers something for every taste, ranging from pop to Mediterranean jazz. The grand Sunday market fair is a highlight, with stalls offering local products, handicrafts, and gourmet food filling the historic center. Families can enjoy walks in the Bosco Magico, children's shows, and entertainment activities, while sports demonstrations round out a program designed for all ages.
More than just an event, the Spring Festival is an expression of Villarbasse's identity. Its organization is the result of collaboration between the Municipality, the Pro Loco, numerous local associations, and the parish, serving as a virtuous example of volunteering and participation. The Pro Loco's Friday evening apericena, now a classic, officially kicks off the festivities and gathers people of all ages before the opening concert. If you are looking for an authentic festival, far from the major tourist circuits and capable of showing you a genuine corner of Piedmont, the Villarbasse Spring Festival is the perfect opportunity.
Villarbasse is located about 20 km west of Turin, in the morainic hills. By car, it can be reached from the Turin ring road by taking the exit towards Rivoli/Rosta and continuing towards the town center. By train, the most convenient stations are Rosta or Avigliana on the Turin-Modane line, with a connection by bus or car.
Access to the event and exhibitions is free. Some initiatives, such as the Pro Loco apericena, require payment and booking.
Wear comfortable shoes to walk through the streets of the historic center and the trails in the Bosco Magico. Check the updated program on the Villarbasse Municipality website in the days leading up to the event.
