The Susa Valley apple market fair in Caprie
La Mela e Dintorni is the main autumn event in the municipality of Caprie, a small village in the Susa Valley near Turin, Piedmont. Every second Sunday of November, the village streets and Piazza Martiri della Libertà fill with stalls for a grand market fair dedicated to local apples and regional specialties. The event is part of the GustoValsusa food and wine circuit, promoted to showcase the valley's agri-food excellence.
The event was founded in 2002 by the Ij Brus-Ciajro association with the goal of promoting apples grown in the Caprie plains and fostering local agricultural culture. Over the years, the fair has grown into a key appointment for the lower Susa Valley, attracting thousands of visitors and over 150 exhibitors. The Susa Valley apple, with its vibrant colors and intense flavor, is the fruit of the unique climate and soil of this part of the valley.
The heart of the day is the large market fair that enlivens the village center. Alongside apple growers, you will find numerous local food and wine offerings:
A historic highlight is the Pomological Exhibition, set up in the parish hall, where ancient and historic apple varieties grown in the valley are displayed. During the fair, various establishments in Caprie also offer apple-based menus, allowing visitors to rediscover traditional rural flavors.
La Mela e Dintorni is more than just a market: throughout the day, there are musical performances, games, school exhibitions, and activities for children. In the afternoon, local authorities host greetings and award ceremonies in a convivial atmosphere that brings together residents, exhibitors, and visitors. Admission is free, and the family-friendly format makes the event suitable for all ages.
Organized by the La Mela e Dintorni Committee with the support of the Municipality of Caprie, the event is a precious opportunity to discover the agricultural heritage of the Susa Valley and support local producers. For those visiting Piedmont in autumn, it is also a way to experience an authentic village at the foot of the mountains and breathe in the genuine atmosphere of Piedmontese country festivals.
The new edition of La Mela e Dintorni will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026, in Caprie, at Piazza Martiri della Libertà, confirming its traditional slot on the second Sunday of November. The date is registered in the official fair calendar of the Piedmont Region.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, exhibitors, and entertainment, will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. As every year, the grand market fair featuring typical Susa Valley products, the Pomological Exhibition, and apple-based menus in local establishments are expected.
Caprie is located in the lower Susa Valley, about 30 km from Turin. By car, it can be reached via the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway (Avigliana or Borgone exits) and the Frejus state road. By train, the reference station is Caprie-Novaretto, on the Turin-Modane line.
The market fair takes place on Sunday, opening around 10:00 AM and closing in the late afternoon. Admission is free.
