The historic agricultural and craft fair of the green Teatine Valleys
The Vacri City Agriculture and Crafts Fair is one of the most anticipated summer events in Vacri, a small town in the province of Chieti nestled in the hills of the Teatine Abruzzo. Now in its 48th edition in 2026, the event has its roots in the late 1970s and has become a landmark for the rural and artisanal world of the district over the years.
The fair is held at the Antica Fornace Exhibition Area in the San Vincenzo district, an exhibition space that comes alive for four days with stands, machinery displays, local products, and cultural initiatives. Admission is free, and the evenings are open to everyone, featuring live music and tastings.
The heart of the fair is the promotion of the agri-food and artisanal excellence of the region. In 2026, the event hosted the first edition of the "Verdi Valli Teatine" Organic District Festival, which brings together nineteen municipalities of the Teatine hills around the themes of sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and product quality. Wines, craft beers, local hill olive oil, and gastronomic specialties complete the range of offerings at the stands.
The most iconic product of the fair is the Vacri Snail, a snail farmed using natural methods that has made the town famous well beyond regional borders. Its presence at the stands and in the dishes served tells the story of the deep bond between Vacri and its farming tradition, spanning livestock, gastronomy, and local culture.
Alongside the exhibition area, the fair offers a rich program of technical seminars dedicated to agricultural innovation—from Agriculture 4.0 to the role of bees as environmental bioindicators, and from Teatine hill olive oil to the trail networks of the Tratturo Magno. The traditional Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdog show is also a highlight, attracting many enthusiasts.
The evenings are dedicated to music and entertainment, with orchestras, bands, country dance groups, and accordion ensembles enlivening the exhibition area until late. The combination of technical, cultural, and entertainment moments makes the fair an event suitable for families, industry professionals, and curious visitors alike.
Visiting the Agriculture and Crafts Fair means immersing yourself in the rural soul of Abruzzo, between the green Teatine Valleys and the hills that slope down toward the Adriatic coast. It is an opportunity to discover an authentic territory, its flavors, and its crafts, in a small town that knows how to transform itself into the capital of its traditions every year.
The 48th edition opened on Thursday, June 18, at 5:00 PM with an inauguration led by journalist and Rai host Paolo Notari, followed in the evening by a performance by the Orchestra all'Italiana.
The following days featured a mix of technical seminars and cultural events: Friday, June 19, included the "Agriculture 4.0 and Beyond" meeting and the "Freaks" live band; Saturday, June 20, featured seminars on bees and environmental bioindicators, the Tratturo Magno, and the Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdog show, with country music by the West Family; Sunday, June 21, included meetings on innovation and tradition in the Organic District and local hill olive oil, the "De-Gusta" moment, and the accordion orchestra for the closing.
The central theme of this edition was the promotion of the Verdi Valli Teatine Organic District and local excellence, with the Vacri Snail as the star of the food and wine stands.
Vacri can be reached by car from the A14 motorway (Chieti-Pescara or Ortona exit), continuing inland along the provincial roads of the Teatine hills. The fair takes place at the Antica Fornace Exhibition Area in the San Vincenzo district. Ample parking space is available near the exhibition area.
Free admission. The fair opens in the late afternoon on the inaugural day (around 5:00 PM), with stands, seminars, and evening shows held on the following days.
Comfortable clothing is recommended for visiting the outdoor exhibition area. Do not miss the stands dedicated to the Vacri Snail and the products of the Verdi Valli Teatine Organic District.
