Santa Claus in the Village is the Christmas festival that brings the illuminated streets of Villa San Nicola to life every December. Located in the municipality of Ortona, in the province of Chieti, in the heart of the Adriatic Abruzzo, the small historic center dresses up for a whole weekend, turning into a true Christmas village. A path of lights, decorations, music, and aromas guides visitors of all ages through the festive atmosphere.

A magical journey for families

The event is specifically designed for families and children. Along the narrow streets of the village, you will find various themed settings: from the gingerbread house to the fun Grinch's house, and the station where children can post their letters to Santa Claus with their wishes. The visit is accompanied by roaming entertainment, featuring costumed characters, jugglers, and moments of fun that bring every corner of the village to life.

Markets, gastronomy, and traditions

There is no shortage of Christmas markets, with stalls offering handicrafts, gift ideas, and local products, as well as tastings of typical Abruzzese food to warm you up between stops. Among the most popular activities is the cheesemaking workshop, open to both children and adults and hosted by local producers like Colle del Nibbio: a chance to discover the ancient local dairy traditions and enjoy an authentic, engaging experience.

A community event

Santa Claus in the Village is organized by the Pro Loco Villa San Nicola APS, which mobilizes local volunteers every year to set up the village and manage hospitality. The initiative is part of the wider Christmas calendar of the Municipality of Ortona and represents one of the most cherished events for the local community, attracting families from neighboring towns as well. Admission to the village is free.
