Christmas in Chieti is the grand calendar of events through which the Municipality of Chieti, a provincial capital in Abruzzo, accompanies the city throughout the holiday season. For about a month, from the switching on of the lights until Epiphany, the historic center and the Chieti Scalo district transform into a trail of lights, music, markets, and events designed for all ages.

The two souls of the city: historic center and Chieti Scalo

The program unfolds across two complementary hubs. In the historic center, the city's living room on Corso Marrucino hosts markets in traditional wooden huts, featuring artisanal products, sweets, and gift ideas, while the main squares welcome the decorated tree and light installations. In Chieti Scalo, the focal point of the events is Piazzale Marconi, which houses the ice skating rink and the Santa Claus village dedicated to the little ones.

Markets, gastronomy, and shows

Beyond the markets, the program offers a dense calendar of initiatives: cooking shows, food and wine tastings, masterclasses dedicated to Abruzzo wines, bingo games, folk choirs, cabaret, and workshops for children. Local associations, together with the municipal administration, enliven squares and streets with music and entertainment, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city.

The official opening is marked by the lighting ceremony, a highly anticipated moment accompanied by street performers, stilt walkers, and artistic displays. The Christmas period continues with charity concerts, theatrical performances, and the grand New Year's Eve celebration in Piazza San Giustino. The festivities conclude with popular traditions: the Befana for children and the living nativity scene staged on Epiphany, which evokes the Nativity in the evocative streets of the center.
