About Törggelefest Galsaun

Every autumn, the small village of Galsaun, located in Kastelbell-Tschars in the Vinschgau Valley, becomes the beating heart of the South Tyrolean "fifth season." The Törggelefest brings the alleys and cellars to life with local specialties, roasted chestnuts, new wine from local vintners, and music. Organized by the local Volunteer Fire Department, it is a convivial and authentic celebration of the end of the grape harvest in the heart of South Tyrol.

Törggelen in the alleys of Galsaun

The Törggelefest in the Alleys and Cellars of Galsaun is the autumn highlight of the village of Galsaun, in the municipality of Kastelbell-Tschars, in the Vinschgau Valley. For an entire weekend, the village alleys and ancient cellars open their doors to visitors, turning into a culinary trail dedicated to the most beloved tradition of South Tyrol.

What is Törggelen?

Törggelen is a centuries-old farming custom that South Tyroleans affectionately call "the fifth season." The term comes from Torggl, the wine press used to crush grapes: the festival celebrates the end of the harvest and the arrival of new wine. Between October and November, when the woods turn red and the chestnuts ripen, farms and cellars open their Stuben to offer the flavors of autumn in an atmosphere of cheerful conviviality.

Autumn Flavors

During the Galsaun Törggelefest, you can enjoy typical seasonal dishes, perfectly paired with wines from local producers. Specialties include:

  • roasted chestnuts (the famous Keschtn);
  • Schlutzkrapfen, speck, sauerkraut, and traditional South Tyrolean cuisine;
  • fried pastries like Krapfen;
  • new wine and Vinschgau Valley wines.

Atmosphere and Music

The festival is more than just gastronomy: a varied program with live music accompanies the two days, making the alleys of Galsaun a meeting place for locals and guests alike. The event is passionately organized by the Galsaun Volunteer Fire Department, a testament to the strong community spirit that characterizes the villages of the Vinschgau Valley.

A Village to Discover

Galsaun is a small, picturesque village perched above the valley floor, overlooked by the ruins of Kastell Kasten. Its location among vineyards and chestnut groves makes it an ideal setting to experience Törggelen in its most authentic form, away from the crowded tourist circuits and immersed in the landscape of the Vinschgau Valley.
