The Truscitedda Festival is one of the most cherished food and wine events in the Sicani Mountains region, held in the charming historic center of Castronovo di Sicilia, a village in the province of Palermo overlooking the Sicilian hinterland. For a few days, typically at the start of summer, the town's alleys, squares, and historic palaces are filled with stalls, enticing aromas, and visitors drawn by the region's culinary excellence.
The meaning of the name
The term truscitedda is the diminutive of truscia, the knotted handkerchief bundle that farmers from Castronovo used to carry their food to the fields during long days of work. The festival revives this rural memory, transforming it into a collective celebration dedicated to the authentic flavors of the Sicani area.

The heart of the event lies in the tastings of local products:
- local cheeses such as Tuma persa, Sicani caciotta, and PDO Pecorino;
- PDO extra virgin olive oil from the Sicani Mountains;
- meats and cured meats, homemade bread, 'nfriulata, and cudduruna;

- local fruit, from Coscia pears to peaches.

How to get there
By car from Palermo, you can reach Castronovo di Sicilia via the SS189 and the local Sicani roads (about an hour and a half). From Agrigento and the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, continue along the provincial roads towards the hinterland.

Admission to the event is generally free; tastings and purchases of local products are paid for directly at the stalls.
