The Lucca Sicula extra virgin olive oil celebration, featuring tastings, music, and Sicilian traditions
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Agrigento province, nestled between the slopes of the Serra di Biondo and the Sosio-Verdura river valley, Lucca Sicula preserves one of Sicily's most ancient vocations: olive cultivation. It is in this small town that the Olive Oil Festival comes to life every autumn. Recently rebranded as the Green Gold Fest, the event was established in 2000 to promote the territory's extra virgin olive oil and its culinary excellence.
The undisputed star is the oil produced from the Nocellara del Belice and Biancolilla cultivars, two varieties typical of the Agrigento area. The Biancolilla is considered one of the oldest olive varieties in Italian groves, believed to originate from the Caltabellotta area, while the Nocellara del Belice is among the island's most prestigious. The mild climate and hilly terrain give this oil exceptional organoleptic characteristics, which the festival celebrates through tastings and educational sessions.
For three days, the center of Lucca Sicula transforms into a grand olive oil village. In Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, stands are set up to showcase agricultural and artisanal products, accompanied by tastings, culture, gastronomy, and music. Along the village streets, the Cantu e Cuntu itinerant groups bring Sicilian music and traditions to life, while a large communal banquet featuring extra virgin olive oil dishes is held along the main street.
The Olive Oil Festival is more than just a gastronomic appointment; it is a symbol of an entire community's identity. Promoted by the Municipality of Lucca Sicula with the support of the Sicilian Region, the event attracts visitors from across the province of Agrigento and all of Sicily every year, drawn by the genuine charm of a village that has made extra virgin olive oil its hallmark.
The Olive Oil Festival (Green Gold Fest) in Lucca Sicula returns in 2026 to celebrate the green gold of the Agrigento province. Official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published; the event traditionally takes place at the end of October, during the olive harvesting and pressing season.
As per tradition, visitors can expect free tastings of dishes featuring extra virgin olive oil, local producer stands, shows, and concerts in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, as well as the itinerant Cantu e Cuntu groups roaming the village streets. The detailed program will be updated as soon as the organizers make it available.
Lucca Sicula is located in the inland area of the Agrigento province, in Sicily. It can be reached by car via the SS118; the nearest airports are Palermo and Trapani-Birgi. The reference railway station is Sciacca/Ribera, from where the journey must be completed by car or bus.
The event takes place in the town center, in Piazza and Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Admission to shows and tastings is free. The event is traditionally held at the end of October, during the olive harvesting and pressing season.
As this is an autumn event, we recommend wearing clothing suitable for cool evenings. For accommodation, it is best to look for options in Sciacca, Ribera, or Bivona, all of which are a short distance away.
