The summer black truffle of the Valle Subequana in Goriano Sicoli
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Truffle Summer Festival is a young food and wine event held in Goriano Sicoli, a mountain village in the Valle Subequana, in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of inland Abruzzo. Conceived in 2024 by truffle industry entrepreneurs Mirko Cifani and Andrea Marganelli, the festival aims to promote the summer black truffle and, through it, the entire environmental, gastronomic, and human heritage of an often overlooked inland area.
The central theme of the festival is to present the truffle as an experience rather than just a product to be served at the table. The Valle Subequana, with its well-drained calcareous soils, humus-rich earth, and mixed forests of oak, hornbeam, and hazel, offers an ideal habitat for the spontaneous growth of the Scorzone summer truffle and other prized varieties. Around this ecosystem, the festival builds a journey made of nature, traditional knowledge, and direct encounters with local truffle hunters, the guardians of an ancient tradition.
The program combines moments of taste, discovery, and in-depth exploration. Highlights from past editions include:
Beyond the gastronomic aspect, the Truffle Summer Festival offers conferences and round tables dedicated to truffle quality and certification, experiential tourism, and the digital storytelling of villages, with the participation of university professors and experts. For Goriano Sicoli and the Valle Subequana, the event represents an opportunity to promote an authentic Abruzzo, capable of intertwining quality gastronomy, hiking, and the empowerment of local communities.
The 2026 edition of the Truffle Summer Festival in Goriano Sicoli has not yet been formalized: as of now, neither the dates nor the program of the event have been communicated. Based on previous editions, held in the first half of August, it is likely that the 2026 event will also take place in the summer, featuring the usual truffle hunts, gourmet dinners, excursions, and family activities in the Valle Subequana. Information will be updated as soon as the organizers release the final calendar.
The Truffle Summer Festival takes place in Goriano Sicoli (ZIP code 67030), a village in the Valle Subequana in the province of L'Aquila, between the historic center and the surrounding mountain territory. Some activities, such as the gourmet dinners, are held at the village's monumental fountain.
Goriano Sicoli can be reached via the A25 Torano-Pescara motorway, exiting near Cocullo/Valle Subequana. It also has its own railway station on the Rome-Sulmona-Pescara line. The village is just a few kilometers from Sulmona.
The black truffle gourmet dinners have limited seating and require advance booking. For information and reservations, please contact the organizers, Andrea Marganelli and Mirko Cifani.
