The ancient ritual of the grape cure in Arco, featuring fresh must and the traditions of Garda Trentino
The Traubenkur – The Grape Cure is one of the most evocative and original events on the autumn calendar in Upper Garda Trentino. The German name, which literally means "grape cure," refers to an ancient Austro-Hungarian tradition: once, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the grape cure was considered a genuine detoxifying and restorative treatment, a sort of panacea sought after by numerous holidaymakers who traveled to Arco specifically to enjoy its mild climate and the virtues of the vine's fruit.
After many years of oblivion, this ritual was revived in 2021 thanks to the commitment of the Arco community, which sought to bring grapes, must, and their beneficial properties back into the spotlight, combining historical memory, wellness, and the promotion of local products.
The most anticipated moment is the live grape pressing, performed by hand with a small traditional wine press, exactly as it was done in the past. The freshly extracted, fragrant, and sweet must is then distributed for free to visitors for tasting, along with fresh local grapes. The star of the show is the Schiava grape, a signature variety of Trentino viticulture and the Garda area, appreciated for its freshness and typical character.
The event takes place in Piazzale Segantini, in the heart of Arco, an elegant town in the Municipality of Arco in the province of Trento, in Trentino-Alto Adige. Surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, and imposing Dolomite walls, Arco has been a destination for holidays and health cures for centuries, famous for its mild, almost Mediterranean climate. The Traubenkur fits perfectly into this tradition, offering visitors a journey back in time through authentic flavors and rural customs.
The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of Arco with the patronage of the Municipality of Arco and the Department of Tourism, and with the support of Assocentro, Agraria Riva del Garda, Cassa Rurale Alto Garda-Rovereto, and numerous institutional partners in the area. Admission is completely free.

The two days, running approximately from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, feature live grape pressing performed by hand with a small wine press, with free distribution of fresh must and local Schiava grapes.
