About Abruzzo Organ Festival

The Abruzzo Organ Festival is the premier organ music series in Abruzzo, bringing high-caliber organ concerts to the region's historic churches every summer. In Pineto, Teramo province, the festival stops at the Church of Sant'Agnese with free-admission events that blend ancient and contemporary repertoires, celebrating both the organ and the sacred heritage of this coastal town. Promoted by the Società della Musica e del Teatro Primo Riccitelli, the event is held under the patronage of the Abruzzo Region.

A widespread organ festival throughout Abruzzo

The Abruzzo Organ Festival is one of the region's most significant musical events, dedicated entirely to organ music. Each year, between summer and early autumn, the festival presents a long series of concerts hosted in churches and places of worship across numerous Abruzzo towns, turning the historic and modern organs of local parishes into the stars of a musical and spiritual journey that spans the entire region.

The event is promoted by the Società della Musica e del Teatro Primo Riccitelli of Teramo and is supported by the patronage of the Abruzzo Region, in collaboration with the "A. Casella" State Conservatory of L'Aquila and the "G. Braga" State Conservatory of Teramo, as well as numerous municipalities and cultural associations. The artistic direction is entrusted to maestro Giamila Berré, a professor at the L'Aquila Conservatory.

The Pineto stop

Among the historic venues of the festival is the Church of Sant'Agnese in Pineto, a seaside town in the province of Teramo overlooking the Adriatic. Built in the 1920s at the behest of the Filiani family—the same family that spurred the town's development and the planting of its famous pine forest—the three-aisle church has hosted the festival's organ concerts for several years. The Pineto events are held in the evening, with free admission, and feature programs ranging from the Italian Baroque repertoire to great Romantic and 20th-century composers, often featuring other instruments and vocalists alongside the organ.

Repertoire and atmosphere

The Abruzzo Organ Festival concerts offer the public the chance to hear the organ in all its tonal richness, from Baroque counterpoint to the most intense pages of the European tradition. The aisles of the Church of Sant'Agnese become a natural soundbox, where the acoustics and the contemplative atmosphere of the sacred space enhance the listening experience. Some Pineto events have also involved local schools, aiming to promote musical education among younger generations.

A bridge between territory and culture

The Abruzzo Organ Festival is more than just a series of concerts; it is a project dedicated to enhancing the organ heritage and the communities that safeguard it. Along the Teramo coast, the festival involves not only Pineto but also the towns of Martinsicuro, Alba Adriatica, and Silvi, utilizing their respective churches. For Pineto and the entire territory, the festival represents an opportunity to rediscover local places of worship and to offer, in the heart of the Abruzzo summer, a moment of high-quality music accessible to all.

Abruzzo Organ Festival — edition 2026

The Church of Sant'Agnese in Pineto is confirmed as one of the festival's venues on the Teramo coast, though the date and program for the Pineto concert have not yet been officially announced.
