Wine tastings in the historic courtyards of the village of Città Sant'Angelo
Every September, Cantine & Cortili brings the historic center of Città Sant'Angelo to life. This elegant hilltop village in the Province of Pescara, Abruzzo, is recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and holds the prestigious title of City of Wine. For two or three evenings, the medieval streets, narrow alleys, and noble courtyards along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II become a single, grand tasting itinerary where visitors stroll glass in hand between tasting stations set up in the town's most picturesque corners.
The stars of the show are the Abruzzese wineries, many of which are rooted in the very hills surrounding the town, covered in vineyards and olive groves. This is the birthplace of the region's signature wines: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano, Cerasuolo, and Pecorino, all paired with local delicacies and the exquisite Aprutino-Pescarese extra virgin olive oil. The event typically uses a ticket system that includes a wine glass, a glass-holder pouch, and a set number of tastings, allowing guests to wander freely and discover every label.
Cantine & Cortili is about more than just oenology: each evening features live concerts ranging from Italian and international pop to 90s hits and traditional Abruzzese folk music, keeping the town squares lively until late. The event also ties in with the historic Grape Festival (Sagra dell'Uva) of Città Sant'Angelo, featuring a parade of floats that celebrates the grape harvest and local farming traditions.
The event is organized by the Ente Manifestazioni C.S.A. in collaboration with the Municipality of Città Sant'Angelo and is part of the extensive Summer in Città Sant'Angelo program. Walking among the noble palaces, churches, and illuminated courtyards while sipping a glass of Montepulciano is the best way to experience this corner of Abruzzo, located just a few kilometers from the coast and the provincial capital, Pescara.
The new edition of Cantine & Cortili is confirmed for Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, 2026, in the historic center of Città Sant'Angelo. As per tradition, local wineries will open their tasting stations along Corso Vittorio Emanuele and in the village courtyards, with wine glasses in hand and live music providing the backdrop for the evenings.
The event, organized by the Ente Manifestazioni C.S.A., is part of the Summer in Città Sant'Angelo 2026 program and anticipates the Grape Festival (Sagra dell'Uva) scheduled for Sunday, September 20.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition (list of participating wineries and evening concerts) will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. Tastings will be held on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, starting in the evening in the historic center, following the established formula with a wine ticket (glass, pouch, and tastings included).
Tastings of Abruzzese wines in the village's historic courtyards, live music, and connection with the Grape Festival on September 20.
Città Sant'Angelo is about 18 km from Pescara. By car: take the Città Sant'Angelo-Pescara Nord exit on the A14 motorway, then head up toward the historic center. By train: arrive at Pescara or Silvi station, then use local bus connections to reach the village.
Access to the village streets is free; tastings require a wine ticket (which includes a glass, a pouch, and a set number of tastings). Winery stations generally open at 7:00 PM.
The historic center is hilly and features original stone paving, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Parking is available on the outskirts of the village. Info: Municipality of Città Sant'Angelo, tel. +39 085 9696266.
