Markets, illuminations, and festive events in one of Italy's most beautiful villages
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, from early December until Epiphany, the Municipality of Città Sant'Angelo, in the province of Pescara (Abruzzo), dresses its historic center in festive attire with a rich calendar of Christmas events. Markets, illuminations, Christmas trees, shows, and screenings bring life to the medieval rue (alleys) of the village—recognized as one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages and a designated city of art, perched on a hill overlooking the Adriatic with views of the Gran Sasso and Maiella mountains.
The heart of the event is the Christmas market, which enlivens the historic center along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and the village squares, featuring stalls with handicrafts, local products, and gift ideas. The traditional lighting ceremony for the illuminations and trees takes place in both the historic center, at Piazza Garibaldi, and the Marina area, at Piazza della Marina, symbolically uniting the two souls of the municipality.
Beyond the markets, the Christmas program offers activities for all ages:
The calendar unfolds week by week, culminating on January 6th, Epiphany, with the eagerly awaited arrival of the Befana.
The Christmas markets and events are promoted by the Municipal Administration of Città Sant'Angelo in collaboration with local associations and merchants, including the "In Corso" association. The event is one of the most cherished winter traditions in the area, attracting visitors from across the province of Pescara and the wider Abruzzo region, drawn by the intimate atmosphere of the ancient village and the evocative setting of its medieval architecture.
Christmas in Città Sant'Angelo returns every year to bring the village's historic center to life with markets, illuminations, and activities for all ages. The dates and program for the 2026/2027 edition have not yet been announced: as soon as they are released by the Municipal Administration, they will be published on this page. As per tradition, we expect markets in the historic center, the lighting of the trees in Piazza Garibaldi and at the Marina, screenings at the Municipal Theatre, and the Santa Claus parade, leading up to the arrival of the Befana on January 6th.
Città Sant'Angelo is located in the province of Pescara, just a few kilometers from the regional capital. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Città Sant'Angelo-Pescara Nord exit) and the Adriatica state road. The nearest train station is in Pescara, which is connected to the village by bus services.
Access to the markets and street events is free. Some shows and screenings at the Municipal Theatre may require a ticket or reservation.
The historic center is characterized by narrow alleys and staircases: comfortable footwear is recommended. On peak days (such as the Immaculate Conception long weekend and holidays), it is advisable to park in the areas outside the village.
