A spring festival blending history and gastronomy

The Tortello and Schiacciata Festival is one of the most beloved spring culinary events in the municipality of Vaglia, in the province of Florence. The event takes place at the Locanda di Villa Demidoff, inside the stunning Medici Park of Pratolino, one of the most scenic Medici villas in Tuscany, now a protected landscape and a popular destination for day trips from Florence.

The stars: Mugello tortelli and stuffed schiacciate

The heart of the festival lies in two specialties of Mugello cuisine. Mugello-style tortelli—large pasta pockets filled with potato and served with meat sauce or simple butter and sage—are the signature dish of the entire Apennine area north of Florence. Alongside them, hot stuffed schiacciate, filled according to traditional rustic recipes, complete a simple and authentic menu designed for those who want to savor the true flavors of the region.

Non-stop kitchen and sunset aperitifs

One of the event's highlights is the continuous service: the kitchen is open non-stop from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely lunch or stop by in the afternoon. From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, it is time for a sunset aperitif, best enjoyed while immersed in the greenery of the park.

A festival for the whole family

The Tortello and Schiacciata Festival is also designed for families: there is a children's play area, and the vast park offers the perfect setting for a walk among fountains, monumental statues, and centuries-old trees. Admission to the Pratolino Park, owned by the Metropolitan City of Florence, is generally free during opening hours.
